MONA, THANK YOU, AS SOON AS I READ ADOLPH DAY CROSSING. I SWEAR I COULD SEE MY FATHER SMILING, FROM WHERE EVER HE IS. IT BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES. I BET THAT WAS WHERE HE TAUGHT ME HOW TO SHOOT A 22 GAUGE RIFLE AT BEER CANS, MY MOTHER WOULD HAVE HAD A FIT. THAT WAS WHY MY AUNT NINA GINGWAY, WOULD TELL MY MOM ITS NOT A GOOD IDEA FOR ME TO STAY WITH MY DAD. BUT I LOVED HIM. INSPITE OF HIS DRINKING, HE WAS ALWAYS GOOD TO ME. AND MADE ME LAUGH. HE ALWAYS HAD KITTENS AND WOULD NAME THEM PURSIE, #1, #2 , HE WAS PROBABLY AT #50 WHEN HE DIED, BECAUSE HE SAID THERE BELLY WOULD LOOK LIKE A FULL PURSE. THANKS FOR THE MEMORY, YOU MADE MY YEAR. When you mentioned the cats, I remember that we had at one time 35 cats that congregated around our house on the old spputh bottoms in Sioux City. My dad was able to 'drop them off but one femal cat,in the downtown area to find new homes. the last cat fowllowed him home 3 times so my mom told him that the cat stays, as it is a symbol of good luck. that cat got attached to my dad, and whenever shew as in heat" she would yowl under my parents bedroom window. hahahaha

HERMIN1,
THANK YOU FOR REPLYING, AND FOR YOUR OFFER OF HELP. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A COMPUTER FOR A BRAIN, AFTER A FEW PAGES, I START GOING COO COO. I'VE BEEN ON THE PHONE ALL DAY. GETTING MORE INFORMATION. I NEED A NOTEBOOK INSTEAD OF STICKY PADS ALL OVER THE PLACE. OR I SHOULD USE A TAPE RECORDER, SO I WON'T FORGET WHAT I JUST LEARNED OR FORGET WHERE I PUT IT. THAT'S WHY HAVING IT IN BLACK AND WHITE ON THE COMPUTER STORED IS THE BEST. I LOVED YOUR CAT STORY,, MADE ME LAUGH.
THANKS,

Dawnday: i too use a spiral ring notbook for recording information from probates, etc. but I also have an index card system. I make up a 4" x6" index card for each person in a family and list the information on them,: DOB,DOD, Baptism date, parents, spouse(s),parents of the spouse(s), date of wedding or marriage and how married, names of children from each spouse . this helps me keep track of the people in my index. I also include as much as possible, the references from which I got the information. I figure ihave at least 3000 + names now, with information on heach name. And i add to my index any new names i come across in my surfingof the internet and the genealogy stites I haunt.I f go through my index and other records at least once a month to refresh my "memory banks". ha ha

REGARDING DAY FAMILY:
IN MY RESEARCH ON RUFUS DAY I RAN ACROSS AN INTERESTING FACT.
WILLIAM DAY ENROLLMENT #189 DOB 1878 DOD:: 1-10-1919 RUFUS DAY ENROLLMENT #333 DOB 1874 DOD: 1-09-1919
NOW I FIND THIS INTERESTING AS THEY DO NOT SEEM TO BE RELATED, YET THEY LIVED IN SAME AREA AND DIED ALMOST SAME DAY. I HAVE TRIED TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY DIED FROM, WERE THEY TOGETHER IN AN ACCIDENT. THEY ARE LISTED ON THE SAME CENSUS ONE NAME FROM THE OTHER. HOWEVER, I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND OUT HOW THEY DIED.
THAT IS MY UPDATE ON THE DAY FAMILY, IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.

HERMIN1,
YOU WERE CORRECT, THE NOTEBOOKS ARE BETTER THAN MY STICKY PADS ALL OVER THE PLACE. HOWEVER, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE I DO I AM WORKING ON SEVERAL NAMES AT THE SAME TIME. SO I GUESS I'M GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE A NOTEBOOK FOR EACH LAST NAME I AM WORKING ON. I THINK ANYWAY.
MY DAUGHTER HAS A FOLDER FOR OUR ANCESTRY, BUT WE WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE TIME TO CREATE SEPARATE FOLDERS FOR EACH NAME.
I WILL KEEP IN TOUCH.

UPDATE ON MY FATHER ADOLPH DAY. I JUST REMEMBERED HE MENTIONED IN HIS LETTERS TO ME OR HIS DIARY (I WAS GIVEN AFTER HE DIED), HE HAD TOLD ME WE WERE DESCENDANTS OF CHIEF AFRAID OF HIS HORSES, AND INDIRECTLY TO SITTING BULL. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER ANYONE MENTIONING THAT HISTORY. MY MOTHER THOUGHT HIS DIARY AND LETTERS SHOULD BE BURIED WITH HIM SO I SENT THEM BACK TO MY AUNT NINA GINGWAY WHO BURIED THEM WITH HIS ROSARY AND BIBLE THAT I HAD KEPT. I WISH I WOULD HAVE KEPT THEM, I HAD READ THEM SO MANY TIMES I THOUGHT I WOULD REMEMBER EVERY WORD, AND NOW I HAVE NOTHING TO FALL BACK ON.
EVERYONE I HAVE ASKED SAYS THEY HADN'T NEVER HEARD OF IT. BUT I DO KNOW MY FATHER SAID CHIEF AFRAID OF HIS HORSES WAS SO SCARY, THAT THE OTHER INDIANS WERE EVEN AFRAID OF HIS HORSES. HENCE THE NAME AFRAID OF HIS HORSES. AND I SHOULD BE PROUD. I BELIEVE HE WAS IN THE BATTLE OF LITTLE BIG HORN., IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.
INFORMATION APPRECIATED.

DAY ANPETU
Subject: Rufus Day
I show Rufus Day's parents are: Day or Anpe born Dec 1847 and Beaver Women born 1842. This Rufus also had a wife name Maggie or Cottonwood White or Moccassin born in 1874 of Crow Creek. the father of Maggie is Bad Moccasin Sook Tahaupesucan and her mother was Jimson Male Sicanguwin. Rufus and Maggie had 1. Evangeline Day born 19 Feb 1896 at Crow Creek and she died 15 Nov (no year listed) but was married to Oscar Deloria 2. Eunice Day born 1899 of Crow Creek and married Hosea Ree 3> Saul Day born 1901 of Crow Creek. Isn't this interesting how different records give different information? Sincerely, Lynda Philbrick
