I am Rosebud and Standing Rock Tribes related. I am trying to do a family tree, for not only myself but as well as other Family members. I would appreciate any help or suggestions I can get. I have been all over the internet with no luck. Some of the names I am trying to research are Thomas or Alice Lucy Crow Necklace(1897-1982), Mary Hatten, Paul George Godfrey Sr., and my Mother Joanne Didier(1936-present). I have been trying to go through Oyate Research Center with no prevail. If anyone has any information on these names or where I need to look or go please let me know. Thanks, Virg (Minnesota)

This will be hard, sepecially if you are not enrolled w/Rosebud and (or) your parents or grandparents are not enrolled. I am Navajo enrolled, but I am also Sisseton-Wahpeton (Thomas Robertson, Andrew Robertson, Jane Robertson and Wapashaw related) and Yankton. Even though I have my Sisseton-Wahpeton and Yankton relations enrollment numbers the tribal offices and BIA are not allowed by the federal government to assist me w/geneology.

dear virg: You might want to contact mr. James Hansen , Geealogical Reference librarian for the Wisconsin State Historical Society Archives at madison WI.(type this into google). You should find his contact information in the Staff listing link.
Your Jane Anderson was the daughter of Margaret(Grey Cloud woman)Anderson-Moores. Jane's Grandmother was also named Margaret Grey Cloud Woman., d/o Chief Wapahasha I's sister. The grandmother was the wife of James Aird an Indian trader.they were married in1783 or soon after. The grandmother died in 1844 and is buried near black Dog's village. James Aird died in 1818/1819 at Prairie du Chien. Jane's mother was married to Capt. james Anderson around 1805 at prairie du chien. hehe died port Hope,Canada in 1874. jane''s siblings were angus anderson, and mary Anderson. Jane's mother died in 1850/ her mother remarried to Hazen Moores(he had worked for Janes grandfather as a clerk).type his name into google and see what you come up with. jane anderon married Andrew Robertson who was a translater and iindian Agent. Andrew was a Scottish nobleman who had left Scotland after some dissapointments in politicl affairs there. He changed his name to hdie his identity, so Anderson wasn't his real surname. Thomas Robertson was one of their children. Try typing in google, Grey Cloud Island history and see what you come up with. One of Tomas Rbertson's children was a son named thomas, h/o Agnus Long. Agnus was the d/o James Long and Ema Gooboy. James Long , one f the children f Cekpawin and Shahanska(Longfoot). andrew robertson died before the 1862 uprising. Mark diedrich mentions Jane anderson in his book about Old Betsey. Captain Anderson is mentioned in Donald Dean parker's book LacQui parle, its missionaries, Traders, and Indians. the link to the book is posted in the Historical records section. YOu might alsowant to contact ed50 as she may be able to help you with one of the descendents of thomas robertson's son, Emma Bear who died erlier this year. You sould check out the censuses in the Census sectionof oyate. i think they may be inthe section titled Index of Censuses. You might also contact vicky of oyate by PM and ask for her help with the sisseton records. Ihope this information helps you.

I am looking for information on descendants of William Bain/Baine who married two Sioux women named Susan and Margare (don't know their Indian names). There children: Martha A (1869-1940) married Archie Crotzer (1879-?); William Milton (1873-1905) married Jennie Fitting (1876-1905) Jennie's parents Mary LeBlanc/Frederick Fitting; Emeron (1867-?); Sallie (1875-?) married Frank LaFramboise (1866-1941); John (1877-?) married Sallie Art; and George Allen (1879-1940) married Ann Hill. Questions: Who are Frank LaFramboise's parents/grandparents & Mary LaBlanc's parents/grandparents (I believe she is the granddaughter of Louis LeBlanc (Provencalle))? Where is Jennie Fitting-Bain buried and can you fill in the death dates of the "?". Trying to finish a book for my Dad's 88th in October. His name is Leonard William Baine born in Lake City South Dakota. I have some pictures and newspaper articles on these people but am looking for more. Can anyone help me please - Rebecca Baine-Yates
