I am finding some interesting info at HeritageQuest. Go here- www.nlc.state.ne.us/nebraskaccess/hqpub.htmlType password- elkhorn7 Besides the free census images, there is a new group at the bottom called- U.S Serial Set Search by name, or by keyword (tribe). I found some really interesting stuff for Sisseton, but not a lot for Santee. Keep in mind when searching the censuses, you must search by head of household for all years besides 1880, but you can also search first names only, or browse location or years.

Vicky,
Once again, you have provided a vital (previously hidden) clue as to who the heck my ancestors were. May God RICHLY bless you and keep you, ALWAYS.

I love the last paragraph of Winfred Decoteau's where they say "the United States would be justly charged in breaking stautes and treaties" Very interesting!! Great find Vicky

Vicky, Thanks for sharing! Especially for the post on Wakicunzewin, who apparently is a long lost ancestor also. I see my Ggrandmother Cankumazawin(IronRoadWoman) is mentioned in the post as an heir. I wished I knew how IronRoadWoman was related to her, anybody know out there? I also see other names that I heard were relatives but I haven't seen anything on paper until this post. Again THANKS allie

Allie, you are so welcome. Have you tried contacting NARA in KC to see if they have anything on these folks? Contact Barbara at Barbara Larsen NARA KC E-mail Address(es): barbara.larsen@nara.gov Give her the names and tribe and ask for heirship reports which will list heirs and usually the relationships. Also check the Sisseton finding aids to see if there are photos or other info at NARA. I can send you the finding aids if you like. Happy hunting!
