Floyd's parents were Christian and Emily (Adams) Westerman. He is buried at St. Matthew's Cemetery near Sisseton, next to his mother.

We have been so blessed with moisture in this area and we actually have green grass covering the plains. It is such a gorgeous contrast to the evergreen trees or at least the trees that weren't burned two years ago. We need to appreciate the beauty of nature surrounding us and yes, even those pretty dandelions. My nephew's girlfriend is new to the area and is excited to start planting flowers and the garden, etc. Anyway, she was talking about the pretty purple flowers and she would just plant them instead of grass because they were so pretty. My nephew didn't understand which flower she was talking about so they took a little drive and she showed him. The "pretty purple flowers" turned out to be the weed ~ purple mustard ~ and my nephew about choked. He told her that was a blankity blank weed and it cost a lot of money to spray and get rid of it and it was nothing you would want to plant ~ just kill! He's going to the nursery with her because he doesn't trust her to pick out the new plants for the yard. We all shared a laugh with her not at her because I'm sure we've all done something like that. Poor thing.

vicky; Oh my god!! You murdered the dandelions. We Greeks use the part above ground (not the blossoms) in our cooking. if I had known , I would have come to your house and dug them up. They are so Yummy. They are very beneficial health-wise. They are a rich source of vitamin C, the plant and the ground up roots contain a glycoprotein that lowers blood sugar and is a diuretic. the dandelions come up twice a year, spring and fall. we hae our own secret spotshere in sioux city where wego to'harvest' the crop. haha Plus, when I was doing my graduate work at Iowa ,the grad students in my department gathered up the dandelions on the U. of Iowa Campus, and we brewed up a really nice Dandelion wine in a still we built in the Dept. of med. Microbiology. Graduate work was not all work . hahaha We even had crab races on Saturdays. At the time,we were raising Horseshoe crabs to bleed them for developing a test for Endotoxin. We named them Nikita and Ivan. That was how they got their exercise, when they weren't living in one of our coolers.
If you want recipes for cooking the Dandelions, let me know.
the Greeks also used the Plantain for medicinal purposes. We also cook lambs quarters .

Well, you will need to come and tell the "weed police" in my town. We are not allowed to enjoy the beautiful gifts Mother Earth gives us. :-(
