Heipa is the word for the Coteau des Prairies near Sisseton SD, or more specifically, "the head of the coteau". It is also a name for the early Presbyterian Church near Veblen which was also known as MountainHead/ Heipa Church and LaBelle Cemetery. All of the markers at this cemetery I have transcribed here- www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GSmid=46951392&CRid=2239208&pt=Mountainhead-LaBelle%20Cemetery&There are many many unmarked graves in this cemetery. If your kin isn't on this list, they have no marker. The church burned a couple of times, and has been gone since the 1960's. There are no records for this church as they were lost in the fires.

The words "Stone Thunder People" in parentheses after his English name, is his Dakota name translated into English, I believe.

If I lived in SD and anywhere near the coteau and the glacial lakes region, I would spend all of my time at the wonderful old cemeteries there. I hope the folks who live there appreciate the "little piece of heaven" they are blessed with. The land is stunningly beautiful. :-) p.s. I will be finishing Buffalo Lake cemetery the first week in June. My husband is getting used to using his vacation time for this sort of thing, God bless him!

I took pictures of the Trudell graves there, but not many others. The most notable though was Chief Struck by the Ree.
Greenwood is a very beautiful cemetery. It is actually 2 cemeteries right next to each other. I think one is Episcopal and the other something else.
