If you are also related to the Campbells, I can give you an email address of another descendant who could probably help you.

collen: I would suggest you start with your parents and work back as far as you can go listing names and vital data for each person and then post it here so that we will know where to refer you for information . Just giving us last names will not help us to help you. As for william quinn, which one are you looking for information on?

Yes, please be very discrete on names and dates that apply to the search you are doing. The more info we have, the better.

colleen: Howard Belland made aout an affidavit#89 for the lake pepin land Scrips in the 1850's: he swore that he was a Frenchman and had married Mary Jeffries in 1839, that she was a 1/2 breed Mde. Sioux. Their children were henry age 15, mary age 11, Catharine age 9 , and jane age 4. The summary of this information is in an article that was written by Mr.R. Hansen , the genealogical librarian for the Wiscosin state Historical society at madison, WI. they have a lot of the territorial records for minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.. You should contact him and ask for his help in locating the mariage record for him (if they maried by a civil authority or a minister or priest) and Mary Jeffries, record for marriage of William l. Quinn, and the baptismal records for the children. You might also check the Min. Historical Society Archives in St. paul as they would have the records for the Fort Snelling church. Howard was Anna Tatiyopa"s 3rd spouse. they had a son John Ross.John was marrid 3 times: (1) Sarah Paypay and the they had several children, Sophia Genick and they had 3 children, and (3) Cecelia bloodgood-no children. _____ How did the Gauster family come to be in this family tree?
Hi there cousin Mike.

I knew that if Colleen would post her information we could liven the board up!
HI COUSINS!
When I heard the name QUINN I thought, "that name is from around the Pickerel Lake area." While I am not conversant on the family I had heard the name when I was growing up and visiting Grandfather Alan and Grandmother Julia Rondell Owens. I am very happy to assist you and discovering new cousins. Now, lets see how this Hakewaste family thread binds us together!.

colleen: Yes you are correct. it was his son Henry who was he husband of Anna Tatiyopa. William L. Quinn(Sr) also made out an affidavit for the lake pepin land Scrips #149. He stated that his wife was Angelique Jeffries and he married her in St. Paul., her father was a Scotchman and her mother was a full breed Indian. He also named their three children. Go to the Church Records Section of our web site and look for the Santee Mission Register 184? - 1904 and in there you will find the Ross family baptismal records, as well as the Genick, and Bloodgood baptismal records. also look and see if the Quinn children's baptismal records may be in there. Mr. hansen may be able to help you with William L. uinn Sr. and Angeliques's marriage record. if your mother lived on the Santee Reservation, and you know when she was born, abaptised, and got married, those records may be in the other Santee Agency Registers. otherwise, if you are a member ancestry.com, type in her data in the search engine and see what you find. You may also go to www.familysearch.org ans see what they have on william L. quinn, and henry Belland. I doubt they would have anything on the Rosses. also see what they have on wiliam l. Quinn and his son and grandson. www.rootsweb may have something on William l. Quinn also at the world Connect project link.

I'm not sure what all you are looking for, but I may be able to help you with the William Quinn / Sarah LaCroix family at Sisseton. I too, am a cousin. Sarah was the youngest sister of my GGGrandfather Fred LaCroix. It's always a pleasure to meet new kin. And if you are getting advice from Mike K., you are lucky indeed! Just give me a holler if I can help with the Sisseton stuff. :-)

The Woolworth papers are not at USD, but the Mn. Hist. Society in St. Paul has an extensive collection. There was a list from Big Jon on OYate as to what people he had done biographies on. You can google the Mn. Hist. Society and then find the call numbers for what you want. I used to work with a gentleman by the name of Steve Nielson. Fabulous place and people. Sunshine

Just a warning- the MN hist. soc. does not have all of the items listed in the list of Woolworth's files. There is a 3 page entry for William L. Quinn the first though. Of the 7 I ordered awhile back, they only had 3 of them.

Yes.it was quite common to marry by Indian custom, for which the only records you would find on an Ind. Custom marriage would be if the mariage was mentioned in the person's heirship papers.

There is a marriage record for Annie/ Adrienne LaCroix and William the second at the Lac qui Parle hist. soc. They married on Feb 23, 1874. It was William the third who married Sarah LaBelle. My "good" computer is in the shop, so I can add more when I get it back. Sorry for the delay, but this 12 year old puter running Windows 95 just isn't cutting it. :-) ___________ Now vicky, you need to give your puters each a name for good luck. thank goodness you have your old one as stand by. Maybe you need to clean up thehC Drive and remove what you don't need, which will speed it up.

Hermin1, my computer has a name, but I don't think that sort of language is allowed here. Colleen, what do you need on Sarah LaCroix? I don't want to bore you with something you already have. Have you been to Mountainhead cemetery near Veblen? Sarah and family are buried there and there is a beautiful photo on Ellen Quinn's marker. She was such a beautiful girl. www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=22821386

Thank You Thank You for all the info. I have been away for a while. I have not been to Mountainhead, I appreciate the beautiful photo of Ellen. I had heard about this but had never seen it! I don't really have any info on Sarah LaCroix, only that she was the 4th wife of William & they had William Q III. There are too many William Quinns!!! Just kidding, it does not make it easy though! Hope all is well with everyone! Happy Spring!
