Hi everyone; I just found out (after 60+ years) who Sophie Archambeau's real mother was...Napegikiyewin. Anyone know what it means? Sophie was brought up on Yankton Rez but her mother was in fact Sisseton from Lake Traversie Rez. She gave Sophie away to marry John Sayapi Roberts. This was a huge breakthrough for our family. Thanks people! stephanie

nape is hand, gi is brown, kiye is help and win is woman but at times the dakota name tranlates into a story or something that happened to the person or the person does or did. and at time we are given the name of our ancestors so it is hard to translate correctly. i would like to talk with you on phone or meet with you cuz one of my kunsi said we're related close to archambeau or archambault from yankton band.
