Maka gi is Brown Earth / It is ---> ge <--- right?
(Maka ge win) the ge it has a A sound so it is "glutteral"...like saying gay but rather through your nose...that little thing in the back of your throat. place the back of your tongue there and say gay almost like you are clearing something from that area, forcing it out while saying gay.

I have a few that need translating:
Hepi (I think this means 3rd born son?)-YES Tatoheya- Oyatetawa-HIS OWN TRIBE/FAMILY/BAND Pejisnahuihauwin- Wicinyan Ianyake Susceatowin (I think this means blue eyed woman)-NOT SURE HOW, BUT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE THOUGHT TOO...SUSBECATOWIN(SHUSHBECHATOWEE) JUST SEEMS SOMEHOW WRONG-BUT IT COULD BE! Mayawakanwin-POSSIBLY MAZAWAKANWIN-HOLY IRON WIN Kage- Mazakahuhuzewin-MAZA-IRON OR SOLID...HUHU-ELBOW OR KNEE...ZE-YELLOW...WIN Wakinyantowin-BLUE THUNDER WIN Toiciyewin-PAINTS HERSELF BLUE WIN Hanyetumaniwin-WALKING NIGHT WIN Anpeduta-RED DAWN(SUNRISE) Tatekoyakewin (I think this means Wind Clad Woman)-I WOULD AGREE...
Okay, I guess that is enough for now.

To Jamie and others who have been posting Dakota names and words phonetically, I want to say THANKS! So many of us can read a little, write a little, and translate a little, but don't have a clue how to pronounce the words, this is truly a gift to us. Bless your generous hearts, and please continue...
