As far as I can tell, as I have researched the family tree of Chief Jerome big Eagle, the Big Eagles of Lyman , SD, you had asked about, are not in Chief big Eagles family tree.

Although Chief jerome Big Eagle was born in Minnesota, as were his parents, after he was released from prison. He lived mostly in the Crow Creek Res. area in So. Dakota, with Blanche and their family, but also lived in Minnesota with his other wife Emma. She died after 1910 in Yellowstone county, Minn.

(Dazzling) and Maternal side: Alice's mother "Inyahawin" (Stone Hide or Covered Stone) born: 1847 Died: 1881, her father "Sinteyukan" (Has A Tail) mother "Makaahonzewin" (Shakes Earth). Do you have anything that might help?

i have nothing on the St. John surname in my files. But you can try plugging in the English Translations of the names you posted at ancestry.com. For date of birth plug in 18**, United States, ,Minnesota. For Death, plug in 19**, United States, and South Dakota( or you can plug in Minnesota, or Nebraska ,or whatever).. I found this works for me , and if there are any with the above names, ancestry does a pretty good job of bring up the Census Records on them.

In a newspaper article from Davenport Iowa written Winter of 1864 , it states Big Eagle Chief of the Prisoners received the use of a teepee from Gen Baker, Baker got it in the Battle of White Stone Hill in 1863 when he slaughtered several hundred Dakota/Lakota/Yankton Women , children and old men.
Gen Baker only lent Big Eagle the Teepee till the Spring then he took it back. It says in the article that Big Eagles women folded the teepee in a most exellent manner and hauled away the Teepee after the presentation.
So if Big Eagle was still there winter of 1864 into Spring of1865. He must have been released Spring/Summer of 1865 and went to Ft Thompson/CrowCreek SD. Was he released by himself? Was there others? These records I do not have.

Sara; All I have is what I found at Ancestry.com. On his tree, it just says that he and blanche were married in 1865, but doesn't say where But I did find something you may find useful at the Library of Congress among the Abrahaam Lincoln collection. I will send it to you.
