My name is C.W. Bearshield. I am trying to find out if Lucy Y. is connected to Good Woman a.ka. WinyanWaste. As GoodWoman is my great great grandmother. We are trying to connect to 1886 census. Is there another deadline or has it passed? Any info is much appreciated!

the deadline for being included in the lawsuit has come and gone. It passed around June or August of last year. You might try checking out the Pine ridge censuses posted in our Census section , and/or the Archives to see what you can find. without vital dates(birth, death0 and who winyanwaste's husband's last name was, hampers our serch for the information you seek.

I have a winyanwaste/good woman in my index born 1872 Parents: n/A spouse: hawk soldier. He died in 1864. His parents were Nancy her cloud aka Tasagye( i am puzzled by this name as it translates to her cane) Her parents were black War bonnet and Sleepy .Note: the parents were from the Lower Brule Res. children of winyanwaste and spouse : Amos Bearshield, born 12-24-1900 and died 1951.He married Rebecca Williams(1912 - 1951). her parents were Lincoln Williams and Francis Rattling shield. both are from the Rosebud reservation. I am also puzzled because if Hawk soldier died in 1864, how could he father a son born in 1900? Is it possible that winyanwaste had a nother spouse? I don't know
I would suggest you check out ancestry.com for other Bearshields in Minnesota. Or see ifyou canfind her obiturary which should give you some clues for further searching, and also get her probate papers. I have been told that you need to know her allotment number and proof(a family tree) to send into the BIA office when you ask for a copy of her probate/Heirship papers.

About the deadline - I was told no - it was not to late and do not give up, but hurry. There are still Lawyers who will take you if you have the proof. I am still working on one side of my family and I will not give up just yet

Hermin 1 - you are so right, my bad. I got it all mixed up and I was confused about how a person could still get in one the first lawsuit, however, there will be a second lawsuit for those who missed the first one. They must have proof and if they have questions on the second lawsuit that will be coming they can call Garret Horn at 1-605-260-1300.

I am seeking info on a Mary Hopkins aka Nagi, she lived in Eggleston Mn. and I know she was pretty old in 1910, I do not have much else to go on. I do believe she died within a few years of 1910. She stated she was alone and made her living by doing some bead work she also said she was almost blind. In the probate that she gave testmony she signed her Name as Mary Hopkins Nagii. Thanks if any one can help or give me a lead to go on.

Oyemaza's probate when the battle over weather Joseph was his son or not. Sorry Hermin I was gone for a day or so. Nagi wrote a letter and said she was Mary Hopkins and she and Joseph lived together till she told him who is father was and then he went to James (Oyemaza). She was alive when she testified and it was in 1910 I believe and she said her address was Eggleston MN. So I looked for her where I could but I don't have a Family search center here or Ancestory. com so thought someone may have seen her name in probate or something? Thanks for help All

I am not sure how this posting got under Lucy and is probably the reason no one ever responded. I am still looking to find out who Mary Hopkins aka Nagi is, she was last known to be living in Eggleston Mn. which is a old settlement outside Prairie Island. I do know she was still alive in 1910. Was maybe hoping someone may have did some research on this lady. I know Hopkins is a very common name. Thanks
