Since we have new members I thought I would bring this name up again to see if any one has any informaiton on him or his family.
George Wanagisica Thomas - parents Lucy Tiyopa and Nomahdi. We beleive he was born between 1838 and 1847. He died in Santee but we do not have a date, but we know it was before 1897.
Geogre had a daughter by the name of Jennie Georgina Thomas. Her mother was a Lucy Tiopa (Jennie's grandmother and mother have similar names) Jennie was raised by her Grandmother Lucy Tiyopa in MN.
We are looking for any information on George that people would have.
Thanks for your help.

Sisco, I know at the time of death he was in Santee. I do not have a date of death. I don't have my records here at work but I believe he was born in the late 1830's. I have only found one wife so far and her name was Lucy Tiopa. They had one child that I am aware of and her name was Jennie Georgina and she lived in MN with her Grandmother Lucy Tiyopa, two completely different people but names are very close.
There was another George Thomas that was younger and he also died at Santee. His spouse at the time of death was Julia Feather Thomas.
What was your Grandmothers name, maybe we can help you find information.

My ggrandmothers name was Susan and according to Oyemaza's probate she went on to marry a Thomas but I have no clue as to who. Her Indian name was Mahpiyakoyakewin she had a son who was Joseph Redwing (Sinkpe) and he was born 1858. I do not have a date of death on Susan or neither do I know for sure who her parents were. I do have a statement that says she was a Hapan and in my ggrandfather's journal he says she died April of 1875. Susan (Mahpiyakoyakewin ) and James Redwing (Oyemaza) were Joseph's parents. Joseph married Anna Hakewaste Wilson. I guess I need a lesson in this research stuff as I do not seem to make much head way. I have had leads saying Susan was a daughter of Cloud man from Sisseton and I have heard that she was a Pay Pay but have no documents confirming either. I do not have a baptisam on her. You know any info on her would be wonderful. Thanks Sisco

CloudMan the choief of the Wahpetons, did not have any daughter mnamed mahpiyakoyakewin. the information I had re. a mahpiyakoyakewin who was in the Paypay famiy comes ferom notes I took from probates I was allowed to look at on members of the PayPay family. there is also a Mahpiyakoyakewin who baptized two children, one a son named Joseph, while being interned at Fort Snelling(1862-1863). The baptisms are recorded in the book by Monjeaux The Dakota Sioux Internment At Fort Snelling,1862-1864. They wre baptized Catholic. The baptismal record for Joseph Redwing lists his mother as susan Redwin g and James Redwing. You need documentation that your Susan was the Susan who was the wife of James Redwing, and also the mother of Joseph Redwing.
