I have been searching for Mahpiyakoyakewin aka as Hapan aka as Susan. She baptised my ggrandfather Sinkpe aka Joseph Red Wing at Ft. Snelling 1863 by Father Ravoux, she is listed as his parent along with Totkarnagin and I have tracked that name to a scouts annuity payment and he is to be Peter Dumarce. They lived up around the Sisseton area, I believe Brown Earth settlement. On the 1902 census I found a Sara Chapman and she states her parents are Totkarnagin and Hapangiwin (go figure). I have info that Peter was B. 1840 d. before 1920, Susan b.1841 d. Sept. 1918 I feel she is ggggrandmother and had a child with Oyemaza Redwing (James) I don't know who her family was but if anyone can shed any light on the subject I would be eternally grateful. Hermin 1 has been trying to help me place these people.

Hope this helps. Here is what I have on the death of Wa-ku-ta. It comes for the St Paul Daily Globe- 27 Aug 1880. I scanned this and tried to copy it here, but it would not paste.
"Wa-ku-ta, the Sioux chief, died recently at the Santee Agency, Nebraska. The home of Wa-ku-ta and his ancestors for generations back, was at the head of Lake Pepin, Minn., where the village of Wa-ku-ta now stands." I could not find a village of Wakuta on any Minnesota map, so far.
I think I have the copy of that tree mentioned, but I am missing one page. My great-great grandmother was is daughter, WIGIWIN (Mary Jane Wakute Robinson), but we have yet to find any documented proof other than US Census' and the Scout list. Any ideas?

the santee family registry, the mclaughin roll, the dakota church records link www.wambdimoni.com/dakota_church_records/ , the iapi oaye...(the lds has this paper on microfilm and pierre,sd has it on microfilm and has the translations by etta perkins also); probate records, ancestry.com, cemetary marker (is by by wakutes, or what is written on it) These are just a few that I can think of for you to try. sinkpe : doesn't this translate to the word for Muskrat? there is a Mahpiyakoyakewin that was the daughterof Mazainape (patriarchof the PayPay family) and one of his wives. She died before 1880 There is a Sinkpe, who was a brother of Samuel Stone, who lived at Crow Creek.

My Grandmother Amelia Chapman was the daughter of Sarah and Joseph Chapman. I have been trying to find out what Sarah's maiden name is. I have been told it was Dumarce but also told it was Doane. I knew my greatgrandmother Sarah as she died around 1956 or 1957 and I was just a kid of 5 or 6 but I remeber her and While researching. it looks as if Sarah Doane died around 1930. It's been very hard to get any info about her. I have been reading so much on this website. I think you people are terrific for helping so many people. If anyone has any info about Sarah Chapman please respond
