Married to Chief Hinhanduta, Mother to George Dowanna Redowl. Need translation of her name and any other name she went by and where to find the info. She's on the Elrod list and she is our descendant. The spelling is a little off, but sure this is the same person. Oh, and if there is a probate for her... Thanks!

Try the 1902 Registerof Santee Ind. Families, and look for George Redowl. His parents are listed over in the last column of the ledge page. I have his parents listed as Hinhanduta b. 1813 and died 8/28/1861. Mother is Tatehuihdewin b. 1813, died 1884. george was 52 yrs old at the time of that census. He was born 1848 Minn., and died apr. 9, 1908. at the age of 60 years. I don't see her on the Allot. List for Santtee that I have. But there is a probate for George #476--8950-15( the first three nos. are his allotment No.). I am told that winnebago will not let you even lookat the probates. I believe though that First Nations outreach center may have a copy of his probate. Call 712-252-5902 and speak with Mrs. casaday. to make arrangements for obtaining a copy of it, if they do have it..

kunsi: You might also try the South Dakota Historical Society in Pierre. I understand that they have microfilms of a lot of the BIA Heirshi[/Probate papers. I don't know where you live, but you might also try the Sisseton Archives. Tatehdhewin is on the 1891 Elrod Annuity roll. But she is not a descendent of a Scout.
