I'm looking for information on the following names; John-Joseph Kioke baptized in 1876 and Levi-Joseph Keoke baptized in 1879??? I'm not sure where these records came from or what Tribe. I belong to the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate but I can only go back two generations. Thank you.

charlotte: You have a good staerting point, but I don't think we can help you without more informtion to go on. In re. to the two generations you have so far found,We need to know the names of those persons and whatever else you have on them. I would try ancestry.com, and also www.familysearch.org and see what you come 8up with. |

Charlotte, can you send me an email to TTordsen@aol.com? I have also wanted to talk to you some on your work with history and native plants. I saw a few things I thought you might like to see, but might need to find your own book! lol I am guarding mine for the time being! lol I can do a couple searches for you that might help some since I am sorta familiar with your family. If you can give the names of your grandparents and greatgrandparents, people like hermin1 and jackie and others can make short work of it. birthdates help too. we used to use a form to help people make a request but we dont use it anymore.

Thank you both for your help; I'll do the best I can right now by memory and later I will post the dates that I have. My Mother was
Eleanore Goldie Keoke, was (MY MOTHER)
Levi Keoke, Sr. was (MY GRANDFATHER) married Doris Barse-Keoke
Jacob Israel Keoke was ((MY GREAT-GRANDFATHER) Married Etta Grant-Keoke
I believe Jacob was born in the middle to late 1800's) He was married twice; 1st wife-Mary Goodboy.
Joseph Keoke (MY GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER)
Joseph was married to Inajiwin (Sophia Donnley?) They had 9 children and Jacob was the only one that survived, he was the middle child. I believe this was due to the Smallpox Epidemic?? Not positive. That is as far back as I can trace the name Keoke; here anyways. The other two men, John-Joseph Kioke I believe he was baptized in the Santee area? and so was Levi-Joseph Keoke. I will provide more information as time goes on here.

the surname Goodboy, I have seen in Sisseton, and also there were some Goodboys I believe in North Dakota.
As for wht the 9 children died of, it wasn't the 1872/3 Smallpox epidemic at Santee.

I see a Ephrim Keoke (poor spelling) to be baptised on March 3rd 1912 born Feb 22nd 1907 to Jacob I Keyoke and Mary Keyoke. Witnessed by Samuel Renville and Robert Grant. and Isabell redEarth. I found the spelling of Jacob's name interesting since at first I thought it looked like Heyoke another family name I come across on occasion.

Hi Charlie,
On the 1887 Sisseton Wahpeton Census
# 492 Joseph Keoke with his wife Sophia and sons Henry and Isreal. So Joseph died soon after this Census was taken.
