I don't have much, and this may not be your John Crow: this John Crow was Age 3 in the 1884 Santee Census. His parents were Joseph Crow aka Kangi, and Mary Hanyetumazawin. He had a sister named Alice age 9/12 at the time of the census. skawin means White Woman Mazatowin means Blue Iron Woman Jean shaw's indian name should be Winona(first born,if a female) Mato hakihota: Mato means bear, hota I think means grey, or ashes? the fact that you have their ID numbers should help you find their probates at theBIA office .

alfred Littlewind was born @ 1876 ND. He died Jan 7, 1923 at Canton, Lincoln, SD 1900 US Census for Devils Lake Ind. Res. Benson,ND lists Alfred at age 24, with Skawinhead of the family, Age42 , and Alfred's wife Jean age 19. ___________________ I would suggest that you check out past issues of the Local Newspapers at fort Totten, ND. for Obituaries.
You could also try and contact Mr. Louis Garcia, who imay be able to help you. ed50 would be able to tell you how to contact him,. Send her a PM. I did notice that there are some people with the surname Littlewind living in Minnesota. Sorry I can't help you with the rest, at this time.

Mazatowin, was the wife to Bonenecklace. I had seen that somewhere, in some papers I had, don't know if that is the same one. As alot of some names were used more than once.

Joseph Crow was married to Mary Crow, the daughter of Martha(Tashinahotewin) and James Redwing.
re. your ancestor being a scout, i believe there are some lists of Scouts in the Archives section of our website, that you can check. Oneof them is Browns List, and then there is Elrod's list of scouts that was compiled in 1892.

Rani, I have an heirship and it lists Littlewind, Taticistena and was married to a Jean or Jennie Littlewind, and their children were Joseph Littlewind, Rose Littlewind, Agnes Littlewind, Mary Ann Littlewind, Jerome Littlewind, Henry Littlewind, and Rosalie Littlewind. Nothing is listed for his parents or grandparents. It does list Alfred Littlewind as (Taticistena) Looks like Jean divorced Littlewind in 1914, and married William Shaw. Hope is helps you.

FIRST OFF, YOU SHOULD SIGN IN AND BECOME A PART OF OUR OYATE...SO WE CAN RESPOND TO YOU BY PMAIL(PERSONAL MESSAGES) ----------------
HI I THINK THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE NAMED --MAZATOWIN(BUT I COULD BE WRONG)...
THE (MAZATOWIN + BONE NECKLACE) ARE LOWER YANKTONAI FROM FT. THOMPSON(CROW CREEK)...THEIR SONS ARE
WHITE GHOST THOMAS FAST WALKER DK HOWE(ONSPESNI-DON'T KNOW HOW) MARK DOG BACK WILLIAM FRENCH WIZI(WIZI-YELLOW SMOKE LODGE) AND POSSIBLY ONE OR TWO OTHERS...
ALTHOUGH AFTER THE UPRISING THIS BAND TURNED THEMSELVES IN AT FT WADSWORTH 1864(SISSETON)-SO THEY WERE IN THE AREA FOR A TIME...
-----------------------------------
I THINK TUNKANSABICIYE(YOU TRANSLATE AS--'Makes Himself BlackStone'(HOW DO YOU TRANSLATE THIS?-FROM A DOCUMENT? SOMEBODY YOU KNOW?)
TUNKAN-STONE(FATHER IN LAW) TUNKASILA-GRANDFATHER(GREAT SPIRIT) SA-RED SAB(SAPA-THE B AND P -MAKE THE SAME SOUND)-DARK RED OR BLACK SABICIYE-PAINTS/MAKES IT RED(DARK RED, OR BLACK)
TAWA-POSESSIVE(MEANING MINE OR HIS OWN)--I DON'T SEE THIS IN THAT NAME(IT WOULD PROBABLY BEGIN WITH TA-)
COULD BE (PAINTS THE STONE DARK RED)(POSSIBLY RED STONE OR BLACK STONE)...DO YOU HAVE AN ENGLISH NAME FOR HIM?
I DON'T QUESTION YOUR TRANSLATION, I ONLY SEEK TO OPEN YOUR MIND TO THE WORLD OF POSSIBILITY...TO GIVE YOU MORE OPTIONS...
DAKOTA IS NOT A LANGUAGE OF NAMES, BUT A LANGUAGE OF DESCRIPTIONS
BACK THEN SOME OF OUR PEOPLE USED A BLUE OR RED PAINTED STONE TO REPRESENT THEIR GRANDFATHER(OR ANCESTORS)...THERE ARE MANY REFERENCES TO USING THESE AS HOLY OBJECTS(READ OLD BETS BY MARK DIETRICH)...THAT THEY HAD A SPIRIT...EVEN SO MUCH AS TO PROTECT THEM FROM OUTSIDE FORCES...THEY ROUTINELY DANCED AND SANG SONGS TO AND ABOUT THESE STONES... AND CARRIED THEM IN A PLACE OF HONOR WHEN MOVING...
AND PEOPLE WERE NAMED FOR EVENTS IN THEIR LIFE...
THERE IS ALSO A TRAIN OF THOUGHT THAT THE COLORS HAD GREAT EFFECT ON THEM...BLACK AND WHITE...LIL'A VS SIC'A...GOOD VS BAD...AND AS SUCH BLACK IS A COLOR THAT IS WAKAN(SACRED)...THEREFORE A SKUNK WAS CONSIDERED SACRED DUE TO ITS COLORS(THO' I'M SURE THE SMELL HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT TOO!)
SO IF HE PAINTED THE STONE BLACK THERE WAS A VERY GOOD REASON BEHIND IT...AND HE WAS NAMED AFTER IT...
TRYING TO HELP...JUST MY THOUGHTS...JON
AND HDAKOYAKEWIN(SHE WEARS BELLS)

Most of these people whose names you have posted are Spirit Lake tribal members. I have some of the information you seek. Just ask me one by one. I teach college carpentry and always pressed for time. Tunkan are the small stones sent out to find information. I translate Tunkan as a Holy Stone. Sabiya means dirty. Ici is self reflection. A Holy stone that makes himself dirty (refering to the color black or brown). Later, Louie
