I have an affidavit signed by Rebecca Maka Hill. In it there is said that she is the daughter of Maka Nabduiwin who died in 1907. The affidavit is concerning the estate of Tukanihdawo. His son was Pazaiyapa or Paziiyapumani. Maka nabduiwin is said to be the daughter of Paza. John Paza and George Paza are also listed as the sons of Paza. Could anyone please expand on this family? I am also wondering if Makanabduiwin could also have been called Makayabdu? Thanks for any information you may have, marnie

I just now found out my ggg grandmother's Indian name - MAKAYABDU. She was the mother of Emily Colombe who married Levi Trudell. Makayabdu was also called Josette/Josephine Dorion, she married Jean Baptiste "John" Colombe. MAKAYABDU was a descendant of Pierre Dorion, but I'm not sure how. Does anybody know anything about this name? She probably would have been born about 1830, and died in 1881 or 1883.

Jimmy: here is what I found at www.rootsweb.com at the World Connect Project Link for Jean Baptiste Colombe: Josette Dorian was born @ 1830 on Colombe Island, Whetstone, SD Her parents were Pierre Dorian and Marie Aoise. Josette married Jean Baptiste Colombe (b. @ 1823 in Canada) aroud 1860 In south Dakota. their children: John Grace David Christopher Emily colombe born 1875 in South Dakota is the one who married a Trudell. but they won't reveal the spouse's name nor their descendents's names, etc. William Colombe Minerva Colombe Josephine Colombe David,Christopher, Emily, William, and Minerva were all born in south Dakota. The other children were born in Colorado. The person who submitted the tree is Joyce Y Stoneman at nannerzma@aol.comolorado. I did not go any further back to see about Josette's parents ancestors. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have seen all of those resources on the internet, I was just hoping that finding the Indian name would lead me in a new direction. The previous poster mentioned the name Makayabdu, and I am hoping there may be some connection.

Though I know that Josette Dorion is descended from Pierre Dorion, we don't know how. It is presumed that she was either a daughter of Paul or Jean Baptiste Dorion, but there is no documentation either way. Also, both men had multiple wives, and there is no way of knowing who the mother is either.
That is the real question I am looking for, who are Josette Makayabdu Dorion's real parents? Most of the family trees online say Paul is the father, but that is only a guess, none of these people have any documentation to back up this claim.

I think her name translates to brown earth powder, or dust. I checked the mormon web site and their records indicate that Pierre dorian and mary Aoise were herr parents. don't know if it helps or not. Hermin1

I have seen that, but Pierre Dorion died in 1814. Josette had her first child in 1861, and her last about 1880. Judging from this, I doubt she was born before 1835, and 1840 is more likely. That is the problem with these online trees, too often there are no sources given, and they make wild claims, like this one. The Paul and Jean Baptiste I mentioned (sons of Pierre) were born about 1806 and 1808, the right age to be the father.
Thank you for the translation.
