Lucy Carpenter had a sister name of Emma Lighting Woman
whose mother was Clloud that turns forut times or Four Cloud
and father name was last name King . Emma had a son by the name of Thomas Thompkins trying to find out about Emma and Thomas
can anyone help me.

Jon Brings the Horses, huh? I met bigJon in Pierre who had information on this family. I have to laugh at myself since I think his energy has rubbed off on me and now when looking through a document for an ancestor I want to say "There! There's our babe!" , when I find her name. lol He was alot of fun and a good reseacher.

Hi, addition to the lucy Carpenter, and Emma Lightening, or visible lightening woman,(wAHANHDIHANINWIN) line goes back to Apeyahmayawin and Paza amani. emma/l852 crow creek allottees, but i don't know how else to get family history. i have been to the archives in pierre and have read all the history on the bands i can find and baptismal records that you all have posted and still am not any closer. please asking for help. rosebudwoman2002@yahoo.com/ will appreciate all the help i can get, you sound like a very knowledgeable group of people, this is my first posting, but am done a lot of serching on your links.i hope jon brings the horses will read this and help, i could not find him on the members list. thank you

I have been thinking about Peji and how there must be some connection to John Grass. Peji or also spelled Pezi
donovan sprague's book standing rock
page 29
john grass was very active in the bozeman trail wars as a leader (itancan). later he became known to the us army as a great orator and diplomat. he traveled to washington dc with standing rock and cheyenne river delegations. for 30 years he was teh leading judge of the court of indian offenses at standing rock. john was born in 1869 and records show he had marriages to annie alkire in 1896, to isabella in 1890, and amanda in 1881. his father was also named john "matowatakpe" grass (pezi) who was born in 1846. the father was also known as used as a shield "hahacankayapi" and was a noted warrior agains other tribes but was always friendly toward the white people. the mother of annie alkire was mary 'tacanonpa' alkire.

Hi. If Peji's daughter Maripyaodina Jutopawi was born about 1806 or 1826 (depending on which age of death is true - Ive seen age 80 and age 100, then Peji would have been born way to early to be connected to John Grass who was born in 1869.

Lucy Carpenter is the great-grandmother of the lady I am helping research her ancestors. Her grandfather, William Carpenter was born near Ft. Pierre. Lucy's parents were Wicosayatapi/King/ Paza-amani and Marpiyaodina Jutopawi. Marpiyaodina's parents were Peji and Apeyakmazawin.
Maripyaodina was also called Mary. According to the records we have her children were:
1. Elizabeth (Winona) Married High Bear.
2. Yellow Man (1) died about 1860
3. Ayerbakde - died young in battle
4.Wandbiiaiya - died young in battle
5. Unnamed girl
6. Tipsini who married a man named Dog Bone and made her home on Lower Brule. She had two children.
7. Emma (WakanKditaninwin) or Visible Lightening, died Nov 1900 at age 82 at Crow Creek. She had been married to a Thomas Tompkins, fur trader. Had one son Thomas who lived his adult live at Lower Brule.
8. Yellow Man 2. also know as Thomas Wagihunka. His son was Jay and he took the name Carpenter as an adult. He married and had many children, the last died just last year-Mable Eagle.
9. Lucy Carpenter, was married three times. (1) Charles Carpenter, (20 High Bear (her sister Elizabeth's husband) and had a daughter named Susan who was born at Lake Kampeska in 1862. (3) Yellow Thigh. Two children, Annie and Two Crow. Lucy died in June 1916 at Crow Creek.
We are now attempting to locate more records showing that Paza-amina actually did live in Minnesota.

Jon. I posted a reply to you about 15 minutes ago and have no idea where it went. I'll try to re-create it....Also you posted a bunch of stuff a few days ago. Census, etc. also one concerning Pazamani..looking for some definition on the name,etc. It was there, I copied it, but a day later it is nowhere on the site. Am I losing my marbles?

the letter I read doesnt contain a list but references the fact that they are moving scouts to Ft Thompson.
I sent you a picture I came across with no other information with it besided the name Yellowman.
Pazamani - Jon it this the one you showed me with your notes as Peji? I do see a Peji or Pezi but it is Peji Skuya and shortened to Peji (Xavier Frenier) would you ever expect to see his name as Pejuta?

hi my name is DeAnn and i was wondering if you have any info on bone necklace my gg grand mother was his daughter and the sister to d.k.how and white ghost . i do believe that there are others as i dont know how many times he was married. my gg grand mother indian name was wayankapiwin and i think it translates to they see her could be totaly wrong. her mother and father were Bone Necklace and mazolawin .wayankapiwin was born in 1819 and d.o.d. 1910 she also married a man wounded arm (yankton sioux, and wanyeca standing rock man and her last husband was a joe sully standing rock man. i have a index and heirship card from crow creek stating this. could this information help or could you help me out in any way with who Bone necklace was. i did find that he was s sub chief.thats all i know. i dont know any thing about mazolawin. does any one know how to translate that name. thank you so much DeAnn
