I am seeking informtion on the Fannie Ross who is on the Mdewakanton Censuses of 1885/86 and 1889. all I know about her is that she was born @1837-1838 in Minnesota. I appreciate any nformation that is provided.

I don't remember where I saw this information, but I believe she didn't have any children.

i would tend t o agree with you wazi. In one of the later Birch Cooley censuses(I think 1899) she was listed as a widow, but of whom I don't know. In the 1885/86 census she was listed as a single woman. I have been told that sometimes when a man deserted his spouse, she would list herself as a widow so noone would suspect otherwise. whether this is true or not,I don't know.

I have information which indicates that Rev. S.D. Hinman and his second wife Mary Myrick(dau. of Andrew Myrick and Nancy stone)were living at Birch Cooley in 1889,and she had a daughter born there in 1889 or 1890, yet Mary does not appear on the 1889 Mdewakanton Census,andneither does her child.

I was told that she was left off because she was not a full blood. Not sure if it is true or not.

Dawn: You and I and others know that some of those people on the two censuses were half bloods also and should not have been on the censuses.
