Hello, I was researching the "Rock" side of my family and I came to a dead end. My grandmother was Bessie Rock. Her father was John Rock and her mother was Florence Rock (maiden name is unknown). Under the 1900 Census John is listed under "Red Bird" who is the Head of Household a female and was born on or about March of 1860. It states that shw as born in Wyoming and her father was born in Montana and her mother in Nebraska. It does not list a husband. For John it says he wasborn on or about April 1888, was born in South Dakota his father was born in North Dakota and his mother was born in Wyoming. Can you help me with any information as to who his father was or who "Red Bird" was I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

vitalis: you didn't indicate where this census was done.this tells me that you must have access to ancestry.com and the actual censuses, which I do not have.this hampers my being able to help you. since you do have access to ancestry, do a search for John Rock, born1888 United States ,South Dakota, and then in the Deceased box, put 19**, and select United States, and select South Dakota and click on search.

Yes I did find the other Bessie Rock. I did another search providing the information you gave me, but I did not find anything more than what I already had. The information I gathered was from 3 censuses the 1930, 1920 and 1910. On the State of South Dakota website it offers online birth certificate information for certificates over 100 years old, but I did not find anything there either.

not yet Vitalis. I apologize for not getting back to you. I do not have any Redbirds in my files.the only rocks I have are theones I found for you. try ancestry again and this time use this spelling for John's surname: Rocque and also try La Rocque and see what you come up with. I will see what I canfind. There are some rocks onthe 1885/86 Mdewakanton census. Have you tried theother side of your family tree to see what you canfind?

Denney, Hermin 1: I have tried the Dogpile search but it brings up a woman who went to a boarding school and her story. That's the only thing I've found. I did try the LaRoque and Roque on the Ancestry but I still came up with nothing. I'm still searching...Thanks again for all your help.
