The following is from Wagon Wheels page 57 of Volume 1. Written by Norma Johnson of the Sisseton Area. On this page is a picture of Alex Lafromboise and Lazarus Adams.
"Joe had been a scout in the army. He and his brother Alex were the sons of another Joe Labromboise and their mother was the daughter of Sleepy Eye. Joe (born in 1832 and died in 1910) played an important role in the peace negotatiations following the Uprising of 1862. As a friend of Gen Sibley, he was able to serve as a scout and carried a message written
by his sister julia from the indians to Sibley. Julia was a teacher and was captured along with many other persons by Little Crows men. Alex had one arm amputed after a hutning mishad. He rested hi s arm on the muzzle of the gun, while out hunting. Somehow, the weapon discharged and shattered the arm requiring the amputation. Joe was married three times and had children by all three wives. One daughter, Justine, married Sam Adams.
Sam Adams' son was Lararus and he was honored in 1972 by being the Grand Marshall of the Sleepy Eye, Minnesota Centennial, because he was the great-great-grandson of Chief Sleepy Eye for whom the town in Minnesota was was named after.

My nieces are descendant of Mr Adams by way of their father and grandfather, if you would be so kind as to share a copy of the certificate I would appreaciate it, I will also keep you in mind in anything else I have or will find on the Adams and Lafromboise family. I will scan this page and send, but you might wish to try to obtain a copy yourself, it is my understanding that they are becoming rare and hard to get. I think Ft Sisseton is a place that has copies yet. There is a series of her books, (I a big fan of Norma Johnson) and and they are all quite good for Sisseton History. She put a great deal of work into them and I am trying to get her a nice star quilt to show her my deep appreciation for her work. She has been ill and I am patiently
waiting to meet with her.
