To tell you the truth , I haven't run across her name anywhere. but if you know her children's english names9which you posted), you maybe able to find something on her through them, including her English name and who she was married to. I did find that her daughter Red Cloud Woman aka Mahpiyadutawin, was the second spouse of George W. Redcloud. They did not have any children though. She was also the spouse of Tamazakan aka Hisgun, and they had a son John M. Bill born 1854 Redwood Falls, MN; baptized 1863 at Mendota by Bishop Whipple. Tamazakan was also the husband of Julia Oldman and they had a son Tohocokaduta. He married Tatiopawastewin(Sophia Shaker) and they had a daughter Ellen, wife of Rev. John C. Tuttle.

This is what I found on the internet. To retrieve Federal Land Records, you might have to go to the County office of Buffalo Co. yourself and search the documents there. Those records usually show family connections, and a plan where the land was located. arduinna ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/sd/buffalo/land/buff-lo.txtSDGENWEB File -- Buffalo Co. SD -- Federal Land Records -- Names ...... 05 107 N 070 W 010 39.65 017 251101 PA 362 05/08/1901 OTAKOYAKEWIN 05 107 N ... 40 017 253400 PA IA 238 12/12/1895 OTAKOYAKEWIN 05 107 N 070 W 007 29.15 ...

Hermin, I do not think it is the same Tamazakan....my records state that Tamazakan died in 1846. Also I have yet to find proof that my Tatiyopawaste is Sophia Shaker. I have seen her probate and it does not list Ellen Stone as her child. Nor does it list Alice Minnetonka, Charles Minnetonka, or Wakanhditanka Ben as her siblings. I have been looking for more information on John Bill to see if it is the same Tamazakan, however have found nothing. wazi

you can write a request to the BIA, Crow Creek Agency and ask for yellowback's probate if that is your ancestor. otakoyakewin might mean wearsmanywoman, my dad said.

Re: Otakoyakewin Is anyone else having problems getting probate files from the B.I.A. agencies? Sisseton Agency told me they were closed until July and then they weren't doing anymore genealogical research. They sent me to the Land Title Records at the Aberdeen Area Office but after I made a request I still haven't heard from them. But did you read on the BLM database
they said: South Dakota Land Patents Database
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) inherited the functions of the General Land Office when it was established by Congress in 1946. The South Dakota Land Patents Database, derived from General Land Office and BLM information, contains deeds (primarily patents) issued by the United States in the region now known as the State of South Dakota between 1859 and 1995. While BLM has been referred to as "the Nations record keeper", it is the National Archives that actually keeps the files. The BLM, maintains diagrammatic plats known as Master Title Plats, which depict lands which are owned by the United States and lands which are patented. However, these plats do not have any information about who the lands were patented to. That information which has only been available after tedious research, it is available now in this database.
The South Dakota Land Patents Database contains the following information for each land transaction: date, location (township, range, section, meridian), name of person the land was patented to, case type, conveyance type, county, and the patent document identification number.
Using this information you can obtain copies of the patent file for $10 from the National Archives at the following address:
Reference Branch (Lands) National Archives Washington, DC 20408 (202) 501-5428
You need to submit your request on a copy of Form 84. To get the form, send an e-mail message to
inquire@nara.gov
In the body of the message, be sure to ask for Form 84 "Order for Copies of Land Entry Files", tell them how many copies you want (get at least 2, in case you make a mistake) and give your name and snail address so they can send you the forms.
(Or you can send a snail mail letter to above address). Sending by e-mail takes less than a week; by snail mail both ways takes about 2 weeks.
So I sent for a form 84 and we'll see what happens. I have a great grandfather that has a name that four other men had in the late 1880's and I'm still trying to sort out who is who...or whom? vmarier

wazi: I have an affidavit that states-in part- that "Tatiopawastewin was the sister of alice Stone deceased, who died prior to the year 1897, leaving as her sole heirs Ellen Tuttle, daughter, aged5?years, residence at Santee Nebraska." This afidavit was was attested to and signed by Frank H. Young and B.J. Young, and in reference to Alice Stone or Tawiyaka who died on the 30th of September 1910 at the age of Eighty years. You are right, she did not marry Tamazakan, I really goofed , nor was she themother of William Bill. thedocuments I have on the Freniers say that Josephine Frenier, daughter of Xavier Frenier (son of mary Frenier and Sake)was married to Moses Tamazakan(Hisgun) and they had a son Asa or Esau Tamazakan.
