Thanks for all you help...now another question. We found that "Flute" is a previous married name for Nancy, so what is her maiden name, Indian name and who were her parents? A lot of work here, but the information would be most valuable and appreciated.

No, that is not the Nancy Flute I'm looking for. She would have been born early 1800's. Her son Phillip was born around 1849. Thanks anyway!

If she was married to Jonah flute then who is john flute's mother? I had gotten information that she was but then I got information that a siyowahdewin was his mother. If anyone can help please do so. oh not sure if spelling is correct.

valari: the information I have is that siyowahdewin was her mother. I would suggest that you contact the Flandreau Tribal office by mail and ask them.
correction: I meant to say that siyowahdewin was John Flute's mother.I am sorry for the goof.

The family tree I received from them has Wamduskawin as his mother. Confusing. I'm on the hunt again though!!
Keep in mind that this is the same tree that has Charles Hillers as Winnie Hillers father. So I am not putting too much thought into this right now. I will share whatever I find with you hermin1.

I thought nancy Wamduska win was his mom too. then I read the book about the history of the Dakota prebyterian Ministry, and in Rev.John Flute's entry Siyowahdewin(sp)was listed as his mother.

This is what I have on Nancy "Obedusca" Flute, born 1828 Minnesota. She married Jonah Flute, born 1810 Minnesota. Their children were:
Joseph Flute born 1844 and John S "Tawacinkewakan" Flute, Birth abt 1851 in Minnesota. He married: Hortense "Homminniwin" Weston, Birth abt 1865 in Minnesota, daughter of Daniel "Kinyankiyaye" Weston, Birth abt 1834 in Minnesota and Julia "Tateihnakewin-Follows the Wind" Culbertson, Birth abt 1840 in Minnesota.
Daniel "Kinyankiyaye" Weston is the son of Chief Cloudman, Birth abt 1780 in Minnesota Northwest Territory and Death abt 1863 in Ft Snelling, Minnesota Territory. Daniel's mother was Lucy "Cetanwin" Weston, Birth abt 1809 in Minnesota Northwest Territory.
1870 U.S. Federal Census reports:
Name: Joseph Flute Age in 1870: 26 Birth Year: abt 1844 Birthplace: Minnesota Home in 1870: Minnehaha, Dakota Territory Race: Indian (Native American) Gender: Male Post Office: Elk Point Value of real estate: View image Household Members: Name Age Joseph Flute 26 Susan Flute 35 Solomon Flute 37 Sophia Flute 34 Jona Flute 65 Obedusca Flute 43 Zacharia Flute 28
I only know Joseph, Jona and Nancy Obedusca in this census. Perhaps someone out there can identify the others.
