I had given the names of 2 Frenier men who had died in Camp McClellan, Davenport Iowa, I have found two more Frenier names, that makes 3 total who died while in prison. 1.Thomas Frenier -died, to be hung 2.John Frenier - died, given 5 years 3. Joseph Frenier- died, given 5 years
THere is another listed as a prisoner his name was... Augustus Frenier sentenced to be hung.
The list I found this from was originally done October 1 st 1862. The same person who wrote the list of names in the booklet also used it a few years later to write in who died while in prison. There are also little checkmarks in front of some names but I have not figured out what they stood for.

::)sara: I found Cekpawin, mother of Louisa Stone at ancestry.com. she was born @1853 in North Dakota. She married Joseph Paypay in1901 at Santee. In the 1920 Census for Cannon Ball Twp.,Sioux County, N.D., she was 67 years old, widowed, and visiting the family of Joseph Redbow. thanks for translating her name for me.

::)Sara thank you for the information re. Augustus/Augustin Frenier. i have some information on him and his family. He went to Sisseton Reservation in S.D. and died there @1908. He is connected with the Dumarces via his daughter Lydia Olivia Frenier. I talked to Liz, and she told me that Augustana College has baptismal records for Joseph Walker, Cordelia Alice Walker, and Louisa Stone Walker.

Do you have a copy of the 1887 census that lists people's parents? The one I hae does not. It looks like when Clinton and Elizabeth were married they used the name Freiner in 1877 but by 1887 they had the name Philbrick.

Dawn: the 1887 Census lists everyone who was at Santee at that time. They are listed by families or households. So if a person is single, and of adult age,he /she is considered a family; the same goes for two individuals who may or may not be related and, but were living together in the same household. If you have it, the 1902 Register of Santee Indian Families also lists who each person's parent's were if known. I did not know that Clinton and Elizabeth had changed their names to Philbrick. thanks so much for the information.
the only Freniers in the 1887 Census are Louis Frenier, aka Pewakan age 51, with his first spouse #1) Jane Frenier aka Wastewin,Julia Frenier aka Inanajin, age 15-niece, and Susan Frenier aka Inawin age 38. I was not aware that clinton and Elizabeth Philbrick were Freniers. Thanks for the information.

Dawn: You might try searching the censuses for the Siouxs up at Sisseton Reservation, possibley Crow Creek, and /or Devil's Lake. Other than what i already posted re. what I have on Louis and his spouse, I also have Cemetery listing for Mary Frenier, buried at Hobu Creek Cemetery,Knox NE. Does her name ring a bell with anyone? there are no dates on her headstone, just her name. Wait aminute, I have an Ancestral Tree for one of the Freniers. I got it at www.rootsweb.com a while ago, when I was serching for Augustin freniere. I also will check the Mixed Bloods of Minnesota lists that I have for Louis.

:DDawn: Here is what I found at Ancestry.com in the U.S. 1910 Census for Hill Twp., Knox, NE in. re. to Elizabeth Philbrick: Age 53 this is her first marriage, she was 30 years old when she married, she had 14 children total, of which 5 were alive, she was born in Minnesota as were her parents. In the 1900 Census, she is listed as having had 14 children with 7 still living, so two of the 7 died by the time of the 1910 Census. Children: Emma(b. Apr. 1877,John C. (b.Nov. 1878,Fred/Fredie(b. Apr. 1884), Eunis(sp.) born Nov. 1886,James(b. jan. 1895, Rose(b. @ 1890).ancestry mentions a Clinton Philbrick born in 1910, but he was not listed on the Census; I am assuming that he must have died. I could not find anything on Proper Armel, Sara Armel, or elizabeth Armel at Ancestry and the other web sites I checked.

Does anyone happen to have a census for 1876-1877. I wanted to see if Clinton Mahplyasana Philbrick or Frenier and Elizabeth Anpetumazaawin Philbrick or Frenier were listed and any other family members that may have been listed. If that cencus listed parents who the parents to Clinton and Elizabeth were listed as. I have the parents from the 1902 census but wanted to check if they were listed as the same.
Thanks again. You are all very helpful. Have a great day. Dawn
