Can anyone tell me what kind of records are at the Blue Cloud Abbey in Sisseton and if anyone has tried to get records from their. I was told that some records may have been moved thier from Santee. Just hear say at this point but wanted to see what I could find out.
Thanks

Hi Dawn. I called Blue Cloud Abbey last year and talked to a priest. He said that they did not have any records there. He said to check with the Church Diocese in South Dakota and Augustana.

girls, I just talked to the young man in Browns Valley, Minn. and he told me that the BIA has closed their office in Sisseton until after the Trial is over on this lawsuit.

That doesnt surprise me as I had heard that whole files are now missing. How horrible that a few can ruin such a resource for the rest of us that wish to be respectful.

Thank you to all for the information. It is too bad that doors are closed because some can not be respectfull of others things.

I think collectively we as researchers have a majority of the records needed to prove lineages, and what we don't have will soon be uncovered. We are being almost catapulted into some wonderful cosmic energy, uniting so many relations with one another, the circle is certainly coming back together, with a steady spin to it. I am dizzy. I have alot of info here. I just realized by doing some filing that I also have alot of Sisseton records, and now several Crow Creek and definately most of the Santee Census'. And I am guessing most of the Trial and Prison records. And we can't forget those amazing CD's that are available now with the Church records.
I imagine the U.S. Govermnet runs a little like my basement office.
It will eventually turnup. With things stuck to it.
Did I mention I was enrolling I, and my children at Dakota educational institutions for 2006-2007. Even if it is just for a year. It is now or never if I want my children to learn to speak Dakota and know how to recite there Dakota history verbatom. I am scared a bit but I know I have some supportive family and friends in my life. I look forward to working and playing with all of you in the near future.

Sara,
Thank you for such encouraging words. I too believe that the energy has shifted. It is such a wonderful feeling of acknowledgement. I often wonder how we would all have come to know such things if it was not for this lawsuit. I may have mixed feelings about the lawsuit in general, but the bottom line is that it did assist in the reawakening of the Dakota spirit.
Have a good week
