My name is Pamela Williams (maiden name) . I am trying to find out which tribe I may be a member or a descendant of and I have just a little information. I want to become a member of my father's tribe if possible. I was hoping you could help or send me in the right direction. I am a descendant of Amos Henry Necklace / Jesse G. Redwing and Mary Skye/Necklace. I am fairly sure they were Santee Sioux. My father is Ellison Williams Jr.. his mother was Delores Redwing, her mother was Mary Skye/Necklace. Delores Redwing's father was Jesse G. Redwing . Please any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Pamela Williams. Respond to pamspoodle@sbcglobal.net
I e-mailed the following to several members listed on the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska but have got no response.
I would like to know if I can be listed under the Tribal Membership Role. Can I enroll? My father is Ellison Aris Williams Jr. and he is listed with you with Identification -No.382-U003946 I can send a copy of his Tribal Census Certificate if you need it. His Blood Degree is 3/8 - Other 1/4 Total 5/8 My maiden name is Pamela Ann Williams. If I can enroll can you instruct me as how to do so? I appreciate your efforts and any help you can assist me with. Thank you so much. Please respond to pamspoodle@sbcglobal.net

My Great Grandpa Henry Tuttle's sister Lucy married a Jesse Red Wing. Is this the same one, I don't know. I have not seen anything as of today that suggests that he had a previous wife. I do see a Mary Sky who is the granddaughter of Wakute through his second wife, Zitkadansakoyakewin. Mary's parent were Ben Sky and Jane Zitkadansawin.
As for enrollment at Santee I believe you have to have a parent on the rolls. Good luck

Yes I have my father's Tribal Census Certifaicate from the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska that is where they list him as 3/8 plus 1/4 other for a total of 5/8. I also am not sure what 1/4 other is. It may be Yankton. I also have a document called Data for Heirship Finding and Family History showing his mother as (Delores Redwing) and her ID# which is SSU784. It also list his Grandmother (Mary Skye) which is Delores Redwing's mother and her ID# YSU322-564. Delores Redwing married Ellison Williams Sr. and she gave birth to my father Ellison Williams Jr. on Jan. 5, 1935. This document also list Jesse G. Redwing as Delores Redwing's father. My Great Grandpa Henry Tuttle's sister Lucy married a Jesse Red Wing. Is this the same one, I don't know. I have not seen anything as of today that suggests that he had a previous wife. I would like to have a class study in HISTORY OF BLOOD QUANTUM 101. I think about how my Grandfather was always suspicious of how everyone needed to be at least 5/8. If I remember right he thought it was an amount the government needed to show a person as in order to subject them to whatever they wished to. What that was or is... i dont know. He equated it with something he had learned in WWII and it had to do with being able to place people in restrictive settings of some sort. ...wish i had paid more attention... I do have lots to learn about the matter of blood quantum but wind up feeling a little opressed and wondering how someone (government) can dictate what a group of people are or are not... okay getting a little off the subject.. LOL I really am interested in this topic and would like to be able to be helpful in some way. I have wondered in the past about the Necklace family and if they descend from Feather in the Ear or PROPERLY interpreted as FEATHER NECKLACE.

I guess I will need to contact the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebreska by phone as they are not responding to my e mails. It is very interesting doing this research and I am learning quite a bit. I want to be able to show my children who and where they came from. I'll bet you would never guess my last name now (married name). It has made for quite an interesting topic among our family members.

I am thinking that it would help if you went there in person to the tribal office? Bring your papers with you.

Probably my next step is by phone. Then by mail. I am sure they are cautious as to whom they accept. And why I am trying to enroll. My children have always been curious of there heritage and I just have been trying to help bring it all together. If it is meant to be it will happen. Thanks, Pam did you try sending copies of the documentation via Certified mail. that way they can't say they didn't get the documents.

By phone good luck you might as well be sending in a request that is how they work there you must submit a letter of request for all pertaining to their process this is how it is done Pam. So send a letter to Roberta Saul enrollment, requesting for enrollment form you will get that in a few weeks or so. Be very prompt with this process as they will have delays?? Then when you get the forms fill them out send them in..sit back and I would make calls at least 2 time a week to fallow up. It took the enrollment 8 months to send me enrollment for my babies and that was in my eyes uncalled for really 8 MONTHS geeesus criminies!! Not that long. lol any way good luck and may you find the closure you seek.
