Does anyone know where I can find the Census that the United States Office of Indian Affairs did in 1855-56 of the Mdewakanton?

It is in the Minnesota Genealogy Journal. Tell me who you need and I will check it for you. There is also at least one more mixed blood list in the journals. However, I believe that there are actually a total of three different mixed blood lists.

I did a quick glance through the copy of the 1855-56 Roll that I have a copy of and didnt see either. I am assuming that I have the same thing as Jackie has, but I could be wrong. Mine comes from the Minnesota Genealgical Society and Park Books. I also have a copy of the older 1837 list as well. I need to be clear, however that the lists I am speaking of are Mixed-Blood Rolls so therefore many full blood families are not on them. Also, example, in the Provencalle, Joseph Sr family, the wife is not listed as she is not mixed blood. This family is also known by the name Joseph LaBlanc Sr, b 1824 or so and with a wife named Nancy. Does anyone have any knowledge of them? Who the wife Nancy might be?

That idea might come from the my statement about one of the census' that I have seen where they use "special inquiries relating to indians" on the lower section. They are hard to take as fact, like most federal census information, but are a "presumptive starting point" (lol) for factual information. One one census he is showing to have said that he has 1/4 white blood and Gustavus shows as having 0. That would lead me to inquire as to the possibility of the two men IF brothers to have different fathers. Tamara

les: I saw Oyewastewin listed with those in Eagle Head's Band among the internees at Fort Snelling. I thought I saw a passing reference also to Kangitanka in the book,"The Dakota Internment at Frot Snelling: 1862-1864. But do you think I could find it again?No-o-o-o-o. If you want to find them in the Annuity Rolls prior to 1863, Check with the NARA in Kansas City or St. Louis. they have the Annuity Rolls on microfilm in their Archives. i didn't see the names on either the two Mixed Blood Censuses I have nor on the List of Descendants of Indian Scouts and Soldiers.
