Hi, I was wondering if anybody had any info. on Margaret Prescott's family? My great grandfather was raised by his aunt, a Mrs. Prescott. I don't know her first name. But I found his baptismal record and it says he was baptized at Shakopee, Mn. on Dec. 26, 1876, at the age of about 10 or 11. In the "parents" section, it said "no parents, Indian boy". So I'm curious about these Prescotts. Thanks for any info. on the matter. Lori

It hadnt occurred to me before but I recall that a daughter of the Robertsons, Andrew and Jane, had married a Prescott. It may be Margaret as they had a daughter by that name. I can check my files to be sure of dates etc. The daughter that married a son of Philander Prescott, had lost her first husband in the uprising. I dont think they had been married long before he was killed in 1862. His last name was Hunter. I will see what I have on that and post it if it would be of interest.

Marion Wallace Robertson married Alexander Hunter, a native of scotland, he was a carpenter by trade and was killed by the indians on the 19th of August, 1862, the second day of the great Sioux outbreak in the Minnesota Valley about three miles south east of the Redwood Agency, a scotchman by the name of John Nairn, who made his escape and lived afterwards in St Peter, Minn.
The indian who killed Hunter was hung with the 38 in Mankato, Minn Marion was saved the intervention of Ca-tka-na in English Left Handed, a son of MaKa akaniun, who was a nephey of Grey Cloud Woman, Mrs Robertson's mother, Left hand brought her to where the rest of her family were. The soldiers buried Hunter. the had no children at the time but a son was born about six months afterwards who died when about 3 years old. Mrs Hunter identified the Indian who shot her husband and she saw him killed. She married for her second husband Z.T. Prescott, a son of Philander Prescott, the aged interpreter and Indian farmer who was killed the first day of the outbreak in 1862. ... She outlived her husband and died at teh Siseton Agency in 1871, her child by Hunter died in 1866 at Fairbault, Mn.
The above is taken from the Writing of John H Case
The children of the marriage to Mr Prescott are Ephrim Prescott Dressie Prescott

From what Herman said, I'm pretty sure this is the same Prescott lady that raised my gr. grandfather. By the way, my gr. grandfather's name was Peter Thompson. Sorry for not mentioning that! Peter was born on Jan. 1, 1865. I've also seen a census that said he was born in 1867. My grandmother mentioned that Mrs. Prescott lived in Morton, Mn. Does anybody know her (Margaret Prescott's) maiden or Indian name? The Iapi Oaye newspaper mentions his baptism in their June 1876 issue on pg. 22. I think his mothers name is Tateoicagewin if I'm understanding the paragraph correctly, it's in Dakota. I'm mostly interested in knowing info. on Margaret's family history, her siblings, where she was from, who her parents were, was she a full blood, that sort of thing. I'm assuming Prescott is her married name? She also goes by Dumarce. Was she married twice? What's the connection there? Her husband Louis was a Frenchman? Thanks for any help you guys!

I had the honor of getting to know a woman named June Lehman who passed on recently. The contribution to history she made in this world is incredible. She worked a great deal with the history of Renville County and Redwood County and lived in Morton Mn. She is related to the Robertson family and I can easily assume that she knew a great deal on the Prescotts in the area. Much of her writings and all that she knew and recorded, she shared. She contributed a great deal to the county historical societies and Renville County in particular. I have found that by emailing the historical society in the past they responded with a great deal of printed material, some of which was given to me by June previously, but some that I hadnt even thought to ask her about. They were quick to send me family trees and newspaper clippings, lots of which I later found out that June had contributed. I am sure they could do the same with the Prescott family. I do have some information on the Prescotts and some of the names you mention seem to connect to the Sisseton area. I will check the stuff I have later and see what I might find. Tamara
