there is another John Blue Cloud. He was a minister at Santee for a while. Minn. Hist. society has a photo of him with his wife and daughter Justine, who married a Wakeman.John was married twice as far as I could tell. He and his family wound up at the Cheyenne Ind. Reservation in Dewey S.D.

Hi Jackie -
Thanks... I kind of thought that was him.... he speaks of you often. We are relatives on his Cloud side from South Dakota that are in pretty close contact with him these days. We are so thankful for the information you and he have provided for us.

I have been researching this family as well, I am not a family member but was asked by my aunt to see what I might see. The information above certainly jives with the information I am seeing.
The 1900 Moody County census shows John B Cloud with wife and children Moses and Joseph. It does show the indian names to be Mahpiya shunk and Ipawega and interesting enough, translates her name to be "Crossing". It is also interesting that Gus Cloud lives close by with family appears to be born in 1847 so therefore older than John who by this census apprears to be born in 1850 or Sept it says. Elizabeth is a bit older and shows to be born in 1845. This would lead me to guess that they, Gus and John are brothers. I doubt that IF they are brothers, that they are full brothers as John B says he is of 1/4 white blood and Gus says 0 white blood. The idea that John B might be mixed blood may help and I will begin to check the mixed blood rolls in Minnesota and use the information given above.
The 1880 Moody County Census shows John B and Agnes and I do believe Agnes to be Elizabeth (just a MatoAkicita knows) as their birthdates show the same 5 year age difference. the children shown are Johnson b apox 1876 Henry b 1877, and Jane b 1878.
The 1930 Montana Blain District census shows John Big Cloud and wife Mary also Roosevelt census shows Moses Cloud.
It is my understanding that daughter Nancy was raised on the sisseton reservation and she married Mr West in 1893. Her birthdate is 1873 and she died in 1964. It is not at this time clear to me who she lived in Sisseton with as the family is showing in Moody County in 1880 and 1900. All of the children in each census at each year appear to have been born in south dakota so they must have been living in the state at the time of her birth. I am going to check some other information I have and will post if I find anything.

bummer... Lucy Pan Oyatewastewin is listed as a 16 year old daughter of John Pan and a woman named Mahpiyahowastewin on the 1891 Annuity Roll in Sisseton. John B's daughter Nancy is known to have been raised in Sisseton so she must be there. I am still looking.
I am sure the John B family has seen this but I thought I would post it anyway. John B Cloud is #433 on the McLaughlin Roll with granddaughter Evangeline Bessie Cloud below is Moses Cloud with Effie and Joseph his children also Rebecca Campbell Cloud (Evangeline's mother) and her daughter Ruby Winnie
All are listed as located in Brockton Montana

RE: Iron Elk's Probate
It states that one of Iron Elk's sisters was Anpetuokyewin aka Blue Eyes. She was married to Wotokoyamani. The children of this marriage were Oliver Moore, Henry St. Cloud, John Bluestone, Haka, and Mrs. Mary Thornton.
Henry St. Cloud wife was Otihiyayewin. It states that Candskmani was the father or father-in-law of Henry St. Cloud. The children of Henry St. Cloud were Gust St. Cloud and Lucy St. Cloud who married James Graham.
Oliver Moore left a daughter , Mrs. Sarah Moore Frazier
Huntkaduta and Tacanku were Iron Elk's brothers. Huntkaduta was the father of Richard Allen.
Hapana was Iron Elk's other sister.

Thank you so much!! I was going to review that family and have some questions regarding Anna Flute or John and Anna Shoto. Anything would be appreciated. I am desperate to find anything on Julia Sky. She is listed on my stepdad's family tree as Julia Sky or Julia Siutena.

hmm... I though te like in kte meant died or something of the sort. I had also thought ta meant like "the"... shows what I know... LOL
Once when I was working on parts of the Word Carrier with my Grandma.. I was struggling with a phrase and it turned out to be "poured water on him or them" and turned out to be baptism. I learned I needed to show her more than just the words I wanted to know. I needed to show her the entire sentence and often more than that!
