my great grandmother was enrolled at Santee. She went by several names. One that I would like to seek information on is Agnes Thomas. Her married name was Agnes Feather and she was living in Greenwood SD. My great grandfather was Joshua Feather. Agnes went by Black Feather and Gold Star. Any info is appreciated.

bobdu: go to the web site where the church records for Santee Agency and the Santee Mission and check them to see if your relative was baptized at Santee. I have no records on an Agnes Thomas, or her parents. Then you should check the census for any records on her and her spouse at Charles-Mix So. Dakota. Which will give you some leads and where to go next.

I found nothing on Agnes Feather using any of the names you provided. the 1910 Census for wagner,charles-Mix SD lists John Feather, wife nancy, son Joshua, son silas, and son John. All born in South Dakota, and all listed as Ogalalla sioux.

Hemin, my cousins went to the office in Yankton regarding my great grandmother. Her maiden name was thomas. Her mother was Elizabeth Thomas. She was married to my great grandfather Joshua Feather. They are Yankton Sioux. Some of the family are Lakota. My great grandfather's brother John had several daughters who married outside the tribe. You might know them as Means, Dobbs, Traversie, etc. They are looking at a connection to a West on the 1886 roll. Thank you for your continued assistance.

Am I correct in that this family descends from Feather Necklace? There was some biographical information in Remember Your Relatives volume one and two. I am sorry, I ran across a member of the family and as I do here in Lakota Country I keep giving away my copies of the book! I have another one coming but dont have it in front of me. If you havent seen it already, check it out at the library.
