Relatives, I need some help to find information on the person named Emma Anpahdiwin, mother to Julia Smith (Wabashaw) on the 1886 Census. She is listed as being 80 years old in 1886, which would make her 25 years of age if she were Nancy Anpahdiwin's mother. I am attempting to establish a connection between the two. Julia Smith (Wabashaw) and Nancy would be sisters. Julia is listed as being 54 in 1886 and Nancy is listed as being 55 on the Santee Census.
I would like to know if there is anyone out there who could assist me in finding a lead between these two individuals. Who was Emma Anpahdiwin's husband or Father? Is there a record of who Emma's children were? Thanks for an any assistance that I can get on this one. SZ

Sherwin,
I have relatives in Sioux City who descend from John Smith. John Smith's daughter Della was my great grandfather Henry Tuttle's firts wife. My relatives who descend from this marriage, were told from the attorney's office in MN that they had to prove who Emma was and if she was the mother of John. I know they are still working on that line. Have you tried the annuities list of 1885? Maybe it might have more information on her.
Good Luck

Hey Wazi I have Emma Jones/Blacksmith listed on G-Grandpa Stephen Wabasha/Blacksmith's probate as daughter, and mother is Isabella Blacksmith, and may have been abandoned by Annie Thomas temp wife of Stephen. I also show Nancy Anpahdiwin as mother to Isabella Blacksmith, I am guessing that she is a second wife to Stephen or a sister in law or both. Wapate

Hey marnie and wazi I think, my thinking, was broke on that first response, :-[after looking closer at the bapt. rec. it looks like, Nancy Anpadiwin - b. 1831 in Redwood Falls, MN and died on March 9,1917, was the mother of Isabella St.Clair/Blacksmith - b. April 1870, she married Stephen Wabasha/Blacksmith in 1884, and had a daughter Cordilia (Emma) Blacksmith on 10-31-1885, she is later known on Stephen's, "Report on Heirship" as of 1-27-1927 as "Emma Jones daughter of Isabella Blacksmith" this report was issued by Yankton Agency. Sherwyn and I are looking into this more. I hope this helps. PS Nancy's father was "Magahdahiyaye" and her mother was "Canhuyuhewin/Canhpiyuhewin" Wapate

Hey Wapate, Good to see you in here again. I'm attempting to find the link between Emma Anpahdiwin on the 1889 Mdewakanton Census to the Nancy Anpahdiwin on the 1885 Santee Census. Nancy Anpahdiwin is also on the 1902 Santee Registry. I would like to know what their relationship is, because they were both from the same Prairie Island Settlement. Nancy married a St. Clair from that area, but her husband is never named on any Indian Census. Do you suppose he would be named on a Non-Indian Census somewhere, with a wife not name or would Nancy Anpahdiwin/St. Clair be listed? Any thoughts on that one? SZ
