Okay, quick info...Cekpawin was the second of Sihanska's wives...Sutahena was their second child, and his wife was Iyarpewin, they had 4 children with Bessie Sutahena or Goodvoice/Shepherd...that's my gggrandma...and then Cekpawin&Sihanska's 5th child was Wayagiyotankewin, who married James Sweetcorn (Wicakidown)..they had 2 children, Henry and Augusta Sweetcorn, and then it lists Emma Tahe..now Emma Head as one of James' heirs..I'm trying to see if Emma had any children and if one was named Esther Head?? Emma Head is listed as my ggGrandma on my mother's side...thanks again...

I have Cekpawin with 5 children, with her spouse Sihansaka, Sophia shaker or tatiyopawastewin, Sutahedan, Tukiska, James Long and Wayagiyotankewin. I see a Bessie Sheperd is listed on her papers along with a Samuel and John Goodvoice.
I see a Emma Tahe now Emma Head daughter of amdoto or Arthur Sweetcorn. No mention of Esther in my stuff either. Sorry.

I hope Brill didn't make up your tree. I think we both have the same Cekpawin, who was married to Peter Arpan. They apparently had the son and a daughter named after momma. My source didn't say where Elizabeth Starr aka Cekpawin was born.

Am I missing something? Is there a Cekpawin on the 1886 census? Or is Cekpawin a child of someone on the census? Why are we looking for Cekpawins? LOL
My aunt called someone for information and found the following names
Tatioyopawastewin This is Sophia Shaker aged 69 at the time of testimony Eupahedan No English Name d 1887 Tukiska No English Name d. 1894 James Long husband of Emma Goodboy Long (this is my aunt's line) Wayagiyoankewin No English Name
does anyone know the english names of the above? I had another resource that showed Titus White to be a son of Cekpawin and brother of James Long. If he is not, he is probably a relative somehow... Is the Sihanska the father of the above children?
Any help would be great.
Tamara It is a beautiful in in Western South Dakota! Hope the sun is shining on you all as well and if not, I will step outside and (as my grandma tells me to do) do a Fan Dance and send some your way!!!

Tamara: go to the Archives section of the web site, and check out the probate data on Cekpawin that I posted several months ago. No I don't think there is a Cekpawin on the 1886 Census, as far as I can tell. A correction to Emma long's name is needed. Her Indian name starts with an N not a W.

Tamara you mentioned that Emma Long was your Aunt's line. What can you tell me about Emma Long, and her family that I haven't already posted?

At this time I dont have anything further than you have posted. When I get the documents from her or learn of anything more, I will most certainly get them to you. I am still working on sorting out the Mary Frenier/Angelique Frenier/ Melvina Demicella line. I am getting closer to sorting out the Mary's and Xaviers, not to mention the Josephines! I had to run it all through Family Tree Maker to see it clearly.

sure, I am sure I have your email address. When school gets out in Rapid City, I am heading east off and on during the summer. I take care of/ spend time with my grandmother who is a fluent speaker/translator. I think I get the better end of the deal when it comes to caring for her. In exchange for the knowledge, she gets, lots of laughter, two great grandchildren who climb on her lap and ask her things like "when you were little, did they have mail?" or when looking at old photos with her, "so, grandma, long time ago, was everything just all grey? , commenting on the black and white color of things in 1920 pictures. She teaches them many indian words and reminds them of the importance of indian ways and manners. She laughs when they ask her how to say "bad" and later combine it with the word for Mother she taught them last year, saying "Ina Sica" when I say "no" to more popcicles. She laughs when they ask her "Grandma, how do you say "purple crayon" in indian?" watching them draw pictures to take to Grandma Rita, her older sister in the nursing home. Often these things go on with her not knowing what their names are, or whose children they are. Sometimes on bad days she doesnt remember the house she lives in her home of 20 years, and she thinks I am my mother. None of which matters since, she can feel we are family and that she is loved...
