On Sam Sully's baptism certificate his parents are listed as Jack Sully and Hapan. It is beleived that Hapan is from the IronElk family
I am looking for information on the IronElks. I do not have a date of birth for her but Sam was born 1864.
Thanks

my maternal g-g-g-g grandma was married to Iron Elk at Crow Creek but I don't think they had any children. she was born in 1813. In one of crow creek episcopal church records it say iron elk died on 6-16-1887 of bronchitis and gastralgia. he was 64. there are also iron elks in lower brule.

Based on what I have seen it would be the Iron Elks and Sully's from crow creek.
I also recieved a note that said that the Iron Elks are related to the Bluestones. Do you know how they are related?

Hello,
Anpetuckiyewin (sister - (children) Mary Thorton, Caske (Oliver Moore), Mahpiyahdinjin, Tunkatoiaiye (Bluestone) and Nancy Ford.
Anpetuckiyewin, I have down as Mary Thorntons mother. I have it spelled Anpetu-okiye-win Mary Thornton had several children with Ahotonna or Thomas Voice at Santee. But Ahotonna dissapears after the 1880's at Santee.
Could I get a copy of the heirship papers? I will pay you for copies and postage. Let me know, Thanks, Sara

Hello everybody, I have a family tree made by a genealogist I hired. It starts with Canhdeskamani and his wife Hapadutewin. From them it comes back 4 generations. It is to much for me to type the whole thing, but if I can help in any way let me know. I also had a copy made and left one with mama bear in Santee. I am sure she would love the company if anyone in her area wanted to see it. If you want you can e-mail me at mkitto@iw.net it is easier for me to keep in touch via e-mail. Thanks mkitto

I was just at Santee last weekend. I was searching the cemetaries for relatives. I would have liked to have seen the family chart. Maybe next time we could look her up.
We evidently missed one cemetary that was one of the original. The preist said it was back in the woods and we would need the help of one of the elders from the tribe to find it but we should wait until the snow melts.
Thanks

I am new to this site and it is awesome place for gathering information. I am also seeking information on the Iron Elk lineage and also Kangi Sapa and Tate. They are the parents of Mary Saul, my great grandmother Lucy Saul's mother. Also, my great grandfather was Samuel Sully (bobdu). Hapan was his mother, which falls under Iron Elk's brother Hunktaduta. My great great grandfather John Saul was a prisoner of war at Davenport. From what I was told he was number 40 on the list of be hung at Mankato but his sentence was repreived. Does anyone have any info about Kangi Sapa, Tate, or John Saul ever being enrolled at Mdewakonton? From the family tree we are related to the Allen's at Flandreau, Trudells, Bluestones, etc. My e-mail address is ozzy@charles-mix.com Thanks

bobdu: hey there Sam. How you doing?Did you ever go to Mineapolis to see Buttes? Your Ancestor John Saul 's father, William Saul was adopted by Esaias Frazier, I believe after his parents died. As I wrote you before, you need to go with the DNA Testing to prove your connection to the Fraziers.

You know i never made it to Mn but my brother was over there on some other business. We have a relative that meets and talks to Dr. buttes almost daily. I have been in contact with Dawn and we are exchanging info. Does Esaisa show up on the 1886 base roll? I met with the Allens a couple of weeks ago and they indicated that they had not submitted anything in yet. They are aware of the deadline. Do you think that the DNA is viable? We have talked about it but still is an option.

bobdu:Esaias does not show up on either the 1885/86 or the 1889 list. I want to correct the info I posted on William Saul. He was adopted by Esaias's father. Esaias's father was killed in the 1862 uprising. I heard that the Yankton Tribe has hired a genealogsit and put her up at the hotel at Lake Andes.,to help people from there find the documentation. check it out. as for the DNA testing, it is up to you and your family what you want to do about it.

Dawn, the sully's mentioned above in this text are from the Rosebud. I met Millie in Aberdeen a month ago. They are our relatives on my dad's side of the family. I believe their great grandfather was jack sully. he was my great grandfather sam sully's father.

What a small world. I went to college with Mary and Joe Ashley at DWU in Mitchell SD years ago. What was Vern's mothers name? Sam Sully was my great grandfather and I am named after him. The Sully's, Kazena's, Redlightnings, and Henry's are all relatives of Vern. My grandfather Gilbert's sister was Mabel Gullikson Sully. Thank you for sharing this with me. I will inform the family down here on the Yankton Rez.
