(perhaps Young, later Redowl married to George Dowanna Redowl) Father- Charles Wheeler Hoffman (white) b. 1846 in Niles, MI Mary was born in 1864 at Crow Creek, baptised in 1867 at Santee. She married Charles St. Clair, had the children than Dawn listed earlier, then later married a Mitchell some time after Charles died in 1907. She died in 1940 and is buried at Howe Creek Cemetery, Knox Co. NE. Buried nearby is her grandmother (Emma's mother) Jane Wicacaka 1813-1889. I'm sorry that there's no connection here.

Emma is a real murstery to us. We know that her mother is Jane Wicacaka, but who her father is, is not quite clear. Benjamin Young is listed as her father on her marriage certificate to Henry Jones (12/23/1912). However, the Benjamin Young (mixed breed) we found is married to another lady with a number of children....does anyone have any conclusive information regarding Emma's father?

buckskin: you stated that you had heard that there were 3 Mary Hoffmans. I don't put a lot of stock in hearsay. i would suggest that you go back to the source of this claim and get his/her basis for saying this. Until thenm, I am not gonna waste my time searching for someone that may or may not have existed.

kunsi, the census I posted above, does not mention who Emma's parents were. On her card file that I have in my index I have Emma Redowl aka Anpetiomaniwin(sp), parents: father N/A, mother Wicaca. Of interest is that her late husband, George Dowana Redowl was buried in St. Cornelia's Bishop Whipple Mission Cemetery, Morton,MN.

I believe that one of the Dumarce children listed with Margaret Dumarce-Prescott the widow of Louis Dumarce-Prescott, may have been Mary or Margaret and married a Hoffman, and they lived at Santee. One of their sons, first name Clifford died in a car accident @1930 or 1940 and was buried in North Dakota.

hermin1, dawn, duke, and kunsi9 The census for the 1885 Indian Roll, for Santee-Sioux Reservation lists Nancy Anpahdiwin as grandmother under Charles St. Clair (Tacantewastedan). Santee-Sioux Reservation, Neb. 1885 Indian Roll ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/_na/1885-1930/ne/santee-sioux/390 . . . . . . . 391 296 Tacantewastedan Charles St. Clair man m 20 392 297 Anpahdiwin Nancy . grandmother f 54 393 . . . . . . . Do you have any information on Charles St. Clair, or the Minnesoate St. Clair. Reason why some of us don't have this information about our families, my grandparent's (Blacksmith/Prue) house burned down, a long time a go and lots of records and photos were lost. All we have now are stories. fwaukazoo

hermin1 Above you mentioned a 1920 US Census of Emma RedOwl's...on that is a cousin "Jane Hoffman, age 73"....would you happen to have Jane's Indian name and any children by her, particularly a child by the name of Mary (Tiskiskatewin)?
