Tasunkemaniwin, whose Mother was Susan Longfoot, and Frances teyapimaniwin, whose had a daughter by the name of Julia Arconge, whose father was Moses Arconge. I know lived at one time but, as far as where their from, I'm at a lose. Would like to know if anyone might have any info on them, and their indian names, if I knew then maybe I can search further myself. Thanks so much for your time and assistance. bruledude04@yahoo.com

Bruledude04,
You might try the Mendota Dakota Community because I think I may have seen the name Aconge on some of their info. their number is 651-452-4141. There is a wonderful lady (Evelyn, I think ~ I don't have my notes in front of me) in charge of their enrollment who is 70 years young and has a wealth of info. on several Dakota families. I didn't find an immediate connection but she reminded me that we are all related and it may show up sometime. She is so nice and pleasant and so helpful and such a complete contrast to some people I have contacted lately. She took the time and searched several family trees and was so gracious about it that I was actually very sorry that I can't claim her as an immediate relative. It's worth a try and if nothing else you can enjoy a pleaant visit with a very gracious and charming Dakota lady.

My dear dad used to tell me,"don't look a gift horse in the mouth. You might lose your head"
Quit bellyaching about this wonderful thing that Allie has done, and is doing for you.
think of the money she has saved you, if you would have had to get these records at Augustana. They were charging $15.00 to look in a ledger /or computer database, and type out the informatio onto a piece of paper.
And it amazes me that the only time some people care to find out about their ancestors were,
is when they look to make money off their relationship with them.

I should have added to Hermin1 that I do however understand your feelings and see how much work you have put into this and helping others. It would be my wish that because of this we might develope our own tribal genealogical societies, cemetary restoration projects and even collect our own artifacts etc instead of letting other non-indian museums or cultural centers house them. I keep telling people, I would make a great assistant! I am looking for one of the many that know more than I and have far better connections to start these things! It is also my own experience that in learning my own family history, had forced me to learn so much more about my native language and I found myself seeking and learning from my grandparents and other fluent speakers, people we are losing far too fast. It would appear to me that history and language are linked for the Dakota people, or at least for me.

tamara: my posting was in response to those who complained on page 1 of this section. I do agree with you on your ideas for the genealogy societies, and in re. to restorig the cemeteries.I would like to see this website or another website, continue to function as a resource for the Santee Sioux to find their ancestors.
I am a non Native American, but in working on this project I did a lot of reading on the history of the Mdewakantons and the Sioux Tribes, and have come to, I hope the same appreciation, of their religious, cultural history and practices, and their impacts on their lives.
I am concerned that the Greek language will not become a "dead language as latin is now considered.

I think that would be fantasic as this is by far the best native research site out there, region specific. I hear you on the language subject and that is why I applaud those out there who focus on it with the children. There is always a debate about who speaks correctly etc. Myself, I try to keep in mind that even the english language has evolved and in some people's opinion for the worse. The total immersion language teaching has worked for the Mowri (sp?) in New Zealand and I was fascinated by Russell Means' take on that subject (on his website).
