The other thing is that I do not believe that Kaardal and Buttes don't have copyright s to any of the original records, legally. The reason being that they would have to get the permisission of the descendents of the people in the records before they could publish this stuff. if you download and print out a copy of the pages of the registers, to document the record source you need to also print out the title page of the Register, and also the title page that buttes and Kaardal put in the first image of the CD's for each church register. the above is my two cents worth. Maybe someone who knows law can give us some input? Hermin1

I would think that the images would be the property of the church from which the registers came.

Jimmy , you are right about t the ledgers being the property of the church. That is why I said that Buttes and Kaardal don';t have any legal right to the records themselves. You notice they put in the statement that Augustana college gave them permission to make digital coppies of the records. itis these digialcopies that people are using for cocumenting their proof of lineal descendency,so it makes sense to to also copy title page on the CD's from which the person got the record.
I know that SD and Minnesota have passsed laws re. confidentility of records. Youhave to send proof of your relationship tosomeone inorder to get birth, death, records, etc.
