the dakota motorcycle riders will be here (crow creek) at approximately noon Saturday-june 24 on their last leg of the commemorating the 38th and the ones that had to walk all the way from ft snelling to ft davenport, then to missouri where they were packed on a boat and brought to crow creek prison in may 1864. last night some descendents from cheyenne river held a ceremony at the graves of the ones that died when they got here. the gravesite had been dug over for gravel when they built the 49/34 highway so a fence was put around it. it was awesome to be there with the singers singing the 38 song. so if everyone can pass the news to anyone that they are welcome to come to old fort thompson and be part of the activities. we will be standing on each side of the road waiting for them to ride in, then we will feed them and tell our stories. this would be a good time to learn of some of the old ones that the descendents were passed the stories down orally and in records. the person that the ancestors chose to organize this is peter lengkeek, his mom was mildred st john and bill lengkeek and his grandma was rose keeble. anyone wanting more info call mona at 245-2131 or email cunksi@yahoo.com everyone welcome!

Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. I can picture it all and wish so much that I could be there. I know that for now my grandmother needs my love and care and that is priority to me, so I will console myself for missing his historical event by telling myself I am still honoring the elders by my actions in staying with her. I would love to meet the people you mention and am sure that Rose Keeble must be one of the relatives I am going to seek out to share the stories my grandfather told me. I want you to know that you and the others involved in this gathering are inspiring in ways you cant even imagine. I look forward to meeting you in person and asking you to tell me every detail.
