Hi everyone.
This is so crazy, I was looking through the Williamson papers today looking for information on Mary Graham. I went straight to the River Bend section. On July 3, 1870 under received from the Pilgrim Church #1. Oyeicasnamani and his wife Maphiyaiyotankewin. I just about fell over.
I have been looking for Oyeicasnamani on the 1869 Santee census is says he went to B.S. He is the father of John Tuttle. Does anyone have information regarding Maphiyaiyotankewin? According to John's baptismal and the 1902 Santee census his mother is listed as Sbuwin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have not to date found the English names they had taken.

Would you be willing to share any info you have on the Tuttle line - John's kids, gkids, etc.? I think my family has a tie in there somehow.
Thanks! kj

Wazi, they are cousins of mine. one of them is alberta's brother. it is ok to let them know, not like the people we have been chatting about who only contribute in a negative and deceitful way. this website has honest caring people. i promise.

I am trying to help trace my niece and her fathers family. Her father's name is Peter David Tuttle and he died tragically in 1993. I believe his fathers name was Henry David Tuttle and they called him Pete. He died in the 70's at a young age as well, and never saw his son, from what I understand. I am just beginning to try to figure this out for her since she is only 15 and is just starting to want to know everything she can about him and his family. I know that her grandmother can be of some help to me in regard to the recent past but maybe not when it goes too far back. I know that he was enrolled Santee (Pete) and I suppose that is where I need to start. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Tamara

I know this sounds stupid, but the first thing you do is try to find an obituary for him. Get whatever informtion you can from your niece's grandmother, and pool the information from both sources together. then you go to the Tribal Office or the BIA office to get his Probate papers if he had any.

I do not have anything on either Peter David Tuttle or his father, or I would gladly send you what information I have, on them.

Anything would be appreciated and it is a good idea to take a look at the obituary for info. I think the tragedy and shock of his death was so hard we have a hard time looking back on it all. He was an incredible young man and a great "brother-in-law" and loved by our family. Picture a taller version of Adam Beach (smoke signals and Windtalkers). With all that in mind, it would be an honor for me to try to help her with this. Tamara

Two things: Hermin1 the Tuttle family tree you are discussing is the tree I have been working on. It is a work in progress. I posted it on the first oyate forum to help those looking however when the tree was being distributed it was done as a matter of fact fashion. I have been working on that tree for my Tuttle relatives, hoping to compile our information and to show what we have thus far. However this is not being explained and I have some relatives telling me of this tree being put out there that has errs on it. So I would appreciate that you please be careful in the passing of this information. The tree that was posted and the updated tree are a little different.
Tamara; I thank you for helping my more than likely relatives. Hermin1 is another individual helping my relatives find there roots. There are several Tuttle family members on this site and the MMDO forum. The advice Peacekeeper and Hermin1 have given are excellent starting points. I will go back and look at what I have. Henry, David, John, Mary, Thomas, Joseph, Isaac, and Maggie are very common names in our family tree. If you have any questions please PM me and we can continue this discussion.

jackie: I have not given out any information from that copy I got of that tree. when I looked at it, I saw that it was not complete, so I did not input any of the information into my index, because the data lacks references(sources of the iinformation).

Hermin, All we can do is use the information at hand to try and help others. We don't know everything, but we try. I think that Wazi just has more info on that line and wants to work with that particular family. Sometimes families get upset because all of the info is not there. That is when they need to step in and help put it on the tree. What is so neat about the websites is the sharing of information. I admit, quite often, that everytime I think I know something, I find out there is more, or the info changes. It is a constant learning process and I have to admit, it has been a terrific learning experience for many. The bottom line is I don't think that many have a complete tree, but if anyone out there does, Congratulations! We just need to keep searching, sharing, and changing our information, until there is nothing left out there to find. Keep helping others, you do a great job! When i am back on track, in a day or two, I will start listing some of the info that was uncovered on the MNHS trip yesterday. I have to take a break first. Have a great day.

Hermin1 I was not speaking in an angry manner. I just want to reiterate the Tuttle tree that was posted on the first oyate forum was not complete. I had put that tree together utilizing all the records I received from the Sioux Valley Genealogical Society. I had to put the tree in some sort of order because of the repetition of names which was confusing me. I also was hoping that my Tuttle relatives out there would be able to fill in the blanks. The latter part of the tree are my direct family tree information in which I have not talked to my relatives here on Pine Ridge regarding birth and death dates. I thank you for your interest in my family; peacekeeper has no part in this discussion except for she offered advice in a search for Henry David Tuttle. Why I am so sensitive about my family tree is that there is a lady in Flandreau who is reproducing family trees and her trees or filled with inaccuracies. She then passes these trees out as fact. Since I have seen two trees that link my family and the inaccurate information in her work and how she is going about I don't want this to happen to the Tuttle tree. It is hard enough trying to trace the documents, I don't want any of my relatives following a false light. There are atleast 15 Tuttle's that I know of working on our roots and we are just wanting to be cautious. Again thank you Hermin1 you have provided me with very helpful leads, and I am so grateful for that. If there is anymore help I can be to you please P.M. me. Wazi

Wazi, do not worry. I understand completely. I am ready and willing to help in any way I can. I was rechecking my sources today and found that Caskeptecedan was a Chapman. He listed his name as Caskeptecedan Chapman.
