Dr. VanBuren emailed and said he is working on this right now. It shouldn't be much longer. He says "there is a lot of great stuff in here"! I can hardly wait! :-)

vicky: the link you posted worked a while back, and today I clicked on it and it did n't bring up the web site. i would suggest that if enough of us write to the folks at Brookings, maybe thwy would publish a second edition for sale. I know i would buy it i it is such a good historical reference, full of information of use to genealogists and historians alike.

New link- lib.sdstate.edu/archives/DigitizedBooks.htmlI, too, am very anxious to see this book. I begged for a second printing, but was told it was being digitalized. I'll email them again and try to find out what the delay is.

UPDATE! The book has been scanned but the 60's type was hard to read, so it is being converted to a more readable font. It's gonna be awhile, maybe a couple more months.

Well, I give up. I'm afraid these folks will have me arrested for harassment if I ask them again how this project is coming. I have requested a copy of this book through inter-library loan at my local library. No luck so far. If anyone ever gets their hands on a copy of this book, please read, memorize the whole thing, then tell us who all is mentioned in it. That's not asking too much, is it? :-)

I borrowed the Laq qui Parle book this summer from the library. Going quickly thru what I copied here is a page I saved.

So this book DOES exist! I was beginning to wonder. :-) Where did you find it? Public library or historical society? Thank you for sharing these pages.

nncy58: thank you for sharing this with us. vicky: thank you for your efforts re. the digitialing of this book. The University of South Dakota's Meeks Library at vermillion also has a copy of this book. thereis a University at mankato tat also has a copy, as does the Iowa state Historical society. You might also want to check the nebraska Historical society, vicky. See if you can borrow the book on Interlibrary Loan. South Dakota State's library at Brookings, has at least 2 copies of this book. One is available for interlibrary loan. i have been hoping for a good Samaritan to take me to vermilion so I can photocopy the whole gimmish . their library only charges 5 cents per page. which should add up to @14.05. Even at 10 censt per pge it is a brgain. it is a rare and valuable historical reference. vicky, ifyou will send me this Doctor's contact information, maybe I can put a fire under his tail to get the digitization of book finished.if not I will ream him a new rectum.

It looks to me as though the links to the index pages have already gone bad. Jamie, is there any way the image loader can be de-bugged? In the meantime folks, you might go to photobucket.com, open a free account, upload your stuff there and post the direct link here, (the http address.) Links from photobucket do not go bad like these have been lately.
On a lighter note, I received word today that this book has arrived at my local library. If you saw a lot in the index that you wanted to read , please request this at your public library through inter-library loan. I will not post here without permission of the publisher and I tried to get that that already. I do know the copyright cops are alive and well and always on the prowl. :-( So, it is available for us- it only took about a week to get it.

Yea! The links work again! Thanks to whoever fixed them! I will have this book in my possession for at least the next 3 weeks. If you see a page or two you would like to see, I can send them. I meant earlier that I will not be posting the ENTIRE book, (as I have been known to do) since I do not have permission and it is copyright protected. hermin1, if you can get us written permission to scan and post this entire book ourselves, we can do that. You must promise them you will not rearrange their anatomy though. :-)
