_____________
Shakpay had a brother , a rival named Hochocaduta, a bold bad man man, who gathered around him a strong party during shakpay's lifetime. After Shakpay's death he
assumed chief control of the band.
The first murders in August,1862 were committed by two or three men belonging to Hochokaduta's party.
The Shakpay band, not that of Kaposia, was mainly responsible both for the inception and execution of that bloody work. After the massacre, Hochokaduta fled north, but in the course of the following winter, he and his family were slain by the Ojibwa.
