I think I may have found Mary Thornton's Baptism record, or at least it is her fathers name that cought my eye. Problem is it is all in french. I need help translating. There are 2 entries. From Father Ravoux's records 1841.
I have Mary Thorntons mother as Anpetuokiyewin and her father as Wotokoyamani. I also have that Anpetu okiyewin is John Bluestones mother. Who is John Bluestones father is it aslo Watookaymani? I have Tukantoiciya( John Bluestone being born 1838 certainly the same time as Nancy and Mary's baptisms.
Hmm, I will keep looking. Sara

roughly translated: he wrote that in 1841 on the 18th of Frebruary, he confer the rite of Baptism on a Nancy born of Watokoyaymani in the month of February 1839). godfather A. Ravoux the second translates the same except for the name of person who was baptized, and the date is August 1843.__ the Godfather A Ravoux I sent a message to a volunteer transltor and hope to get a more precise translation for you in a day or two. I think the French like the Greeks at times put a subject after the predicate.

On Iron Elks probate it lists
Mary Thonrnton Caske Olicer Moore Mahpiyahdinajin Sanding Cloud Tunkan to iciye John Bluestone Nancy Ford
I think these baptisms are for Mary And Nancy and I think given the date of John Bluestones birth believe that Watokoyaymani is his father as well.
In interview Barbara Buttes and Sheldon Wolfchild both say they have John Bluestone as one of there grandfathers, they said John was born in 1838. not 1828. Have they ever said who John Bluestones father was?
Thanks, Sara

now let me get this straight. I don't have any records of Ravoux's for Mendota. what I have is the first 24 pages of Ravoux's Register of Baptisms, Marriages, and Deaths 1841-1844 and On a Trip Up the Missouri 1847. Is this what everyone wants? the only other big things I have is those baptisms from the Bishop Whipple Mission at Lower Sioux gency, and the 1902 Santee Register that Dawn sent me. Is pages59-? the rest of Ravoux's journal or what is it? I do not have this.

Wow, cool Sherwyn, Thank-you so much, Mary Thornton was born about 1840 ans she had a sister Nancy Ford and the father was Watokoyaymani, aka John Bluestones father. There are 2 different years given for John Bluestone, 1828 and 1838, I think it was 1838 like Wolfchild and Buttes state. That would make them close in age as siblings.
Thanks again. Sara

The CD's that contain the Church Records from Augustana can be found at www.base9tech.com/dcr and if you go to the website now you will only get the first CD but by this weekend all 4 will be available. This will help all who can't make it to MN and SD. Allie
