The hanging of 38 Dakota took place in Mankato, Minnesota, on December 26, 1862. The hanging location was on what is now Main Street at 4 o'clock p.m. Later, at Fort Snelling, in St. Paul, Minnesota, two Dakota, named S-kpe-da and Wa-kan-o-zha-zha, were hanged after being kidnapped in Canada and delivered to United States military authorities.
