hi maggie. i was reading something the other day and it said that flandreau was only allowed to have an episcopal and a presbyterian church. the catholics tried to come in but were not allowed. www.episcopalchurch.org/directory_18675_ENG_HTM.htmit was definitely an episcopalian church. jackie

I'm not sure if this is true but didn't the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches help the Indian people during or after the displacement? I was told that is why many whose relatives were affected by the uprising were and still remain loyal to those affiliation? Years ago during a visit to Santee I thought that Willard Mackey told me Mormans helped the Santee people at first and someone please correct me if I am wrong. We talked about the conditions the people who were sent down the river must have endured and the Episcopal church or missionaries helped the Santee and the Presbyterian helped at Santee. I remember my Grandfather and Mother talking about this also with Rev. Guy Rondell who was a Presbyterian minister at Pine Ridge for years. Anyone...please correct me if I am wrong.
