Hi Jackie, Could you check for Winona Zidan/Elizabeth Jeffers on that list or Mary Jeffers Belland and Angelique Jeffers Quinn. How many names are on that list? Thanks Allie

Jackie, Thanks for the info. I think I have that list of baptisms that Father Ravous performed. I think there were 57 of them. From the list of churches you provided through the marquette link, I found another list of dakota baptisms and marriages performed by Father Ravoux from 1841-1844. Thanks Jackie, look forward to hearing from you again! Allie

Hello Allie this is Tamara and the name Belland caught my eye. I have been searching Matt Gill and his relationship with the Belland family. The lady I am interested in is name Mary Blackshield and I believe her maiden name is Belland. Do the names connect to your family as well?

Hi Tamara No, I am researching the Belland and Quinn names because they are the daughters of Winona Zidan/Elizabeth Jeffers. And our family thinks that Winona Zidan was married to a Angry Eyes at one time. In speaking with a Moses Quinn from Sisseton, he states that someone related to him that she did have two families. Mary Belland states in 1908 that her father Joseph Jeffers, who was married to Winona, died when she was young and therefore could have been married again and thats what we believe. Anyway thats what I am going on and why I'm researching those names is because it puts Winona in those areas. Good to hear from you. Keep in touch. Bye Allie

Jackie, I forgot to mention to you that I made a mistake on what I said last night to you about those baptisms. I was referring to 57 baptisms done by Father Loras. If you would like a copy I could send it your way. Bye Allie

Jackie; Hi, I have downloaded info you emailed me and thank you," much"! It is going to be very helpful! I appreciate it!!
If you have the time as I know you are very busy!
Could I please have the english translation of the Baps from 1841-1844 by Father Ravous? Also in the English version, the Baps for 1862-63 in Ft. Snelling and Mankato.
Also one other question, I went into the site for the Marquette.edu that you posted and this might sound dumb, but how do I access the files? How and where on the web site? Do I pay a fee? To Whom?
Thanks
Bo

t is not a dumb question. i would suggest that you find what you want and call marquette and see if you can pay someone to find what you need, make a copy, and send it. they usually have people on staff to do this for you.

I was looking at a few books in the local library and saw a picture that had the name of Thomas Walking Eagle and another that I forget. Another book had a picture of Isaac Tuttle. It was a historical book on the church. Do you know the named of the siblings of Mary Belland? Is it a probate that you are getting your information from? So this is the Winona you were looking for not long ago, you have done well I see. Especially since Winona is not an easy name to start with!

Has anyone come across a website for Presbyterian or Episcopal Native American church records similar to the Catholic repository at Marquette University? Thanks. MS

hi Jackie, Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I just got back from Montana. I found Mary Belland's testimony in James Mclaughlings records. She says her mother is Winona Zidan. Through another friend, I was led to the book "Through Dakota Eyes" which refers to Winona Zidan and her daughter "who was the wife of William Quinn" and found out her name (Angelique Jeffers Quinn) through another source so that makes her the sister of Mary Belland. I did request a death cert for a Mary Belland from MN but it says she died in 1913 at the age of 100. In another source I found out that Mary Belland, the daughter of Winona, was born in 1822 at Lac Qui Parle so that kind of leliminates her as our Mary Belland. Anyway I'm rambling so how can I help you. I do have Mary's husband Henry on a 1949 Territorial census along with "Wenona". The following year gives everyone's names on that Census. Anyway good to hear from you. Bye Allie PS Both of these families show up on the 1/2 breed scout roll as well. It gives their names as well.

no that doesn't necessarily eliminate her. there are many errors regarding age on many of the old records. the 10 year difference does not eliminate this person as being your person.
