Hi: This is just to give you a general update on Fr. Dan's papers - he was a priest here at Spirit Lake for many years and collected a very significant amount of information on family genealogy - he was with us up until his accident and then was summoned back to Blue Cloud Abbey and that is where is died. He did indeed leave a wealth of information at the mission here at Spirit Lake, however we do not have access to the documentation as the church - more specifically a parish member took possession of this property and has it locked away at her place of residence. Our family has inquired about viewing the materials, but at this present date and time have not been successful.

Thanks so much for the background. How frustrating and sad as Fr Madlon must have done it for a reason and I am sure it wasnt to be locked up and not shared. I think each and everyone of us would eventually like to share what we have collected and would hate to think that it go on locked away instead of appreciated. My biggest hinderance in sharing some of my family information is that I tend to feel as if it isnt complete yet and it is hard to share only a part of it. sort of like giving one a piece of a puzzle rather than the whole picture. we all need some access to a printing press so we can format the files and files and files we all have. I know each of you know what I am talking about. I know all of you travel with boxes and plastic file cases. have collections of books and photos. and of course the huge bag or briefcase with a fraction of the vital parts at all times!!
