My friend Mike Cowdrey is looking for a good photo of Jacob Eastman, father of Charles Eastman (Ohiyes'a). He is also looking for any information as to Jacob's genealogy (parents, siblings, wife, children, etc) Jacob 's Indian name was Many Lighting (Tawakanhdiota). According to what Mike has located, he was a Akicita Itancan (Chief of Police) for Makato (Blue earth) Wahpetun village and later signed the 1851 Mendota Treaty as a Mdewakantun Akicita Itancan for Wabasha 2. He was related through marriage to the Faribaults.

lavannah: thanks so much for posting the photo. I too had trouble maneuvering around the site, at first, after proboards upgraded it.

mahpiya; Jacob had a son Edward, with Anna Tatiyopa-Ross.he had a family and I believe he died after 1910 in NE. Jacob did not have any children with Siyowin(prairie chicken). Jacob also wed Nancy Mazatokahewin. They had a son Daniel born 1870 SD, and died as a child in 1872, and a son Demas, born 1867 in davenport,IA, who was living in South Dakota, per 1910 US Censsus for Ree,Chas Mix,SD. hwas single at the time of that census, and working for the Rainbow family as a hired man.

I am Christy Ann Blair.I am new to this site and while searching I discovered this post. I am the great, great, great granddaughter of Anna Tatiyopa-Ross from her 3rd marriage, to Henry Belland. Their son, John Ross, and his wife Sarah Pay Pay, (Pepe)?, had a child Emma who in turn married John Hursell. Their son Philip married Elnora Burrell, who gave birth to my father, Clinton David Hursell.
