Finding and identifying the the Dakota families near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba has been confusing and challenging. The Sioux Village near Portage La Prairie, Manitoba evolved between 1862 and 1972. It was hard to distinguish Dakota from Ojibway families in census records during this time and region. In 1972, the Sioux Village divided into Dakota Tipi First Nation and Dakota Plains First Nation. I am including links to the Long Plain First Nation census records for reviewing them to find Dakota families.
