Can you help me with information on Ellen Larvie? She was the last wife of Crazy Horse. Some books say she was a Cheyenne girl, but the Tiyospae Site says she was Oglala. Who and what was this woman?

Donovan Spraque's book"The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation" also mentions her and her family.. She was married to Crazy Horse while he was in Fort Robinson, they were only together for about 4 months, no children. After Crazy Horse was murdered, one of his close friends "Greasy Hand, took Crazy Horse's name and married Nellie/Helen and they had a daughter called Ella Crazy Horse..and lived around the Wanblee area.

Who and what was this woman? hi in my own personal view, I would say, chi chi (also known as ellen larvie) was a french speaking cheyenne woman with lakota knowledge and lakota family members and that would be right i think but thats my own personal view of ellen.

My research indicates Chief Crazy Horse first wife was Black Buffalo Woman. they were married for three to four days according to Oglala tradition. Chief Crazy Horse second wife was Black Shaw Woman, from about 1870 until his death. According to Oglala tradition Chief Crazy Horse married Ellen Larrabee, commonly known as Nellie. Ellen Larrabee (Nellie) parents were Joe Larrabee. Joe Larrabee a French fur trader from Saint Charles on the Missouri River, married a full blood Cheyenne woman called Shawunwinla (Cheyenne Woman) by the Oglala. Nellie married Chief Crazy Horse about July or August and remained for the last part of the last summer of Chief Crazy Horse life until his death.

Lady Larvie (Nellie Larabee/Larvie) as she was known was the last wife of Crazy Horse. She was my Great, Great, Great Aunt. When Crazy Horse was killed ( by his own people) she married his brother as is the custom in Native culture. As folklore has it he was buried out on White Shirt Table at an unknown location. Having been there, I can say that the beadhills are indication of warriors buried beneath the earth. This is the aural history passed down through my family as a direct descendent of Nellie Larrabee/Larvie.
