My heart goes out to the family of Elouise Cobell who died October 16, 2011 from complications of cancer. Elouise was truly a hero although it was never her intentions. Hopefully, we will all continue to fight for justice no matter how small or large the case may be. I salute you Elouise with my fighting duck. stephanie

Just sharing Elouise Cobell passing also from the White House, she was a FIGHTING WARRIOR on our behalf.....
The White House
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release October 17, 2011 Statement by the President on the Passing of Elouise Cobell Michelle and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Elouise Cobell yesterday. Elouise spoke out when she saw that the Interior Department had failed to account for billions of dollars that they were supposed to collect on behalf of more than 300,000 of her fellow Native Americans. Because she did, I was able to sign into law a piece of legislation that finally provided a measure of justice to those who were affected. That law also creates a scholarship fund to give more Native Americans access to higher education, and give tribes more control over their own lands. Elouise helped to strengthen the government to government relationship with Indian Country, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, and all those who mourn her passing.

I really hope that Obama does what he promised during his last election for natives. I believe on Dec. 2, he meets with 500 tribes in Washington again. He really, really needs to keep at some promises to natives and free Peltier, more control of tribal lands and better health care for everyone in this country. I like the guy but he hasn't shown any concern for natives as of yet. What's new?
