Thought I would share this on Oyate, in case there are interested relatives: Dawnday (Rene'e)

This group is the vision of Calvin Spotted Elk (the true direct lineal descendant of Chief Spotted Elk, or Chief Bigfoot, as he came to be known, who was killed at Wounded Knee in 1890 along with his people and members of other bands with him at that time)
It is our intention to offer a feather for each person there whether they were killed, wounded or survived.
To date, there has not been a proper memorial for all of the people who were there that day. Calvin would like to see this happen. He feels it is a very important part of mending the sacred hoop that was shattered that day.
There are politics involving the land on which the memorial currently stands. We don’t wish to be a part of those politics, we simply wish to honor those who were there.
The idea came on Memorial Day, 2011 after Calvin sent out an invitation to people on Facebook asking them to also remember his people.
Each day that we are able, we will add a feather and information that we know about the person. If there are others, such as true descendants, who have more information, we would like them to participate and include details such as photos, or stories they may have about their relative.
We are still getting used to the new Facebook group set up and learning our way around. If anyone is familiar and would like to volunteer as an admin, please send Calvin and email. We would very much appreciate your assistance.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Calvin Spotted Elk and family
