A fellow researcher.sent me a link to a website at although it does not list those buried in each cemetery, it does give a brief history of each, their location, and in some, a descriptionof the condition of the cemetery.give a listing of the cemeteries in Mellette County, .there are other informative links at this website also. genealogytrails.com/sdak/mellette/nativeamericans.htm
Oneof the cemeteries is named Brings Three White Horses Cemetery. it is described as a private family cemetery. BigJon could there be relations of yours buried here?

I am the Webmaster for the Mellette County website you mention. I am currently working on getting all of the cemeteries and burials onto the website. I have several up now with headstone photos. I have thousands to add.
If anyone is looking for someone I may have the information, but not have it up on the website yet.
If anyone has any info they would like to contribute, or would like to request info, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Thank you! I have so many resources and information it will take me years to get it all on the website! I am also working with the Mellette County Historical Society. They have provided a lot of info. Yet... I would really like to post info from individuals. (Family website addresses, biographies, obits, historical documents, etc.)
yes, i was very very impressed with your website format and the information it has and will be providing. You did a wonderful job. I echo vicky in welcoming you to our website. As the Greeks would say Kalos eelthes(it is good that you have come).
Hello Rita, When I was in Mellette and Todd County hunting graves of the Yellow Cloud's ,I was told by Tim Hollar that there were some in Red Leaf Cemetery. I went to Norris and asked how to get to it. I was told it was on County Line Road. So, I went looking. I found three but they were all unmarked. One was in a curve where you went in a drive to a white house and turned up a hill. The next is on side of the road and the thrid you have to turn in at a "posted-keep out " road and it is down on the right. All three are fairly large and had a large number of unmarked graves. Most of the Yellow Cloud graves I found were in Todd on private land along the White River or behind Grace Church, in Soldier Creek. I hope to go back this summer, if so I will get pictures and names for you. Ray

Thank Ray, I would really appreciate it. I got pictures of Ring Thunder, First Body of Jesus Christ White River (Broncho Bill) and White River Cemetery. There is another person taking pictures of the Wood Evergreen Cemetery. Most of the cemeteries are in bad shape. It's important to photograph and record all of them before they are lost forever! Thanks for your help Ray!! --Rita
ray that is great!! It is sad that these cemeteries are being neglected. My late brother (he was an ancient Greek Historian at the U. of kansas) told me about a village he had visited in France, where once a year the people go to the cemetery and tidy it up, and put flowers on every grave. then they have a potluck picnic.
